Said Hitler 'didn't even sink to using chemical weapons on his own people' like Assad has. Says this on day 2 of Passover. Calls concentration camps 'Holocaust centers.'

Surely even the Donald can see what a liability this idiot is at this point?!

You kidding? Trump probably told him that. This is not an administration of mental giants.

You just can't make these things up.

He was trying, (albeit very in-artfully and completely unnecessarily) to make the point that Hitler had not used gas as a military combat weapon...

He was given an opportunity to clarify what he was trying to say during the press briefing, tried to clarify it, and promptly stuck his other foot in his mouth:
Minutes later, Spicer delivered a garbled defense of his remarks in which he tried to differentiate between Hitler’s actions and the gas attack on Syrian civilians last week. The attack in northern Syria left nearly 90 people dead, and Turkey’s health minister said test show sarin gas was used.

“I think when you come to sarin gas, there was no, he (Hitler) was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Assad is doing,” Spicer said. “There was clearly….I understand your point, thank you. There was not…He brought them into the Holocaust center I understand that.”

“I appreciate the clarification. That was not the intent,” he said.
After the briefing, he released a statement that cleaned it up somewhat:
After the briefing, Spicer emailed a statement to reporters: “In no way was I trying to lessen the horrendous nature of the Holocaust. I was trying to draw a distinction of the tactic of using airplanes to drop chemical weapons on population centers. Any attack on innocent people is reprehensible and inexcusable.”

weapons/

But of course it was totally unnecessary for him to even go there, and when you have the guy whose primary job it is to try and explain what somebody else meant when they have said something really stupid needing to have that done for himself, it's not A Good Thing... :?

Sean Spicer has the very difficult job of reconciling policy statements by various leaders, when this administration HAS NO POLICIES.

"Make America Great Again" is not a policy.

snailgate.

In Clarification 3.0 Sean finally gets it right and apologizes:
CNN)White House press secretary Sean Spicer apologized Tuesday after saying Adolf Hitler "didn't even sink to using chemical weapons" during World War II in an effort to shame Russia's alliance with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his use of chemical weapons.

The comment was immediately decried and after a series of attempts to clear up his words, Spicer apologized in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

"I was obviously trying to make a point about the heinous acts that Assad had made against his own people last week, using chemical weapons and gas. Frankly, I mistakenly made an inappropriate and insensitive reference to the Holocaust, for which there is no comparison," Spicer said. "And for that I apologize. It was mistake to do that."

Spicer, who said he was "aware" that gas chambers were used during the Holocaust, later said he should have "stayed focused" on Assad and asked people to forgive him for his "mistake."

Whatever else you want to say about him, at least he was willing to own his fuck-up, admit it, and apologize for it, which is more than his boss has never done...

And probably never will.

It takes a big man to admit when he's been wrong.

:ok

Another example of people hearing something and then lining up to be offended, then getting an appropriate apology and an admission of a bad mistake, but they're not ready to not be offended, so they keep complaining.

This is beyond whining. It's idiotic.

I'm not offended because he tried to draw an idiotic comparison to the Holocaust. I'm horrified by the staggering incompetence in delivering whatever "official" message the White House was trying to convey. But then again, staggering incompetence is the hallmark of this Administration, so a good fit.

Spicer should be replaced by someone who can think on her feet. Maybe Melissa McCarthy...
