Not to sound callous but violent deaths in peaceful areas register differently than those in warzones.

White Western Christian lives matter more, apparently.

All those dead kids in Manchester are Christians? I did not know that.

The bias towards events which are local or which effect people like ourselves is universal. It is so much a part of everyone's consciousness that I can't find in it a criticism of others but only against myself.

A related point which perhaps you will see and perhaps not: nearly every native American nation had a name for themselves which meant "The People", occasionally with a modifier like "the peaceful people or the snake people." And a name for everyone else which was a derogator of some sort. Often meaning "not humans".
