Could Trump get Primaried?

What if Trump grows so unpopular that he is unable to secure the republican nomination for a second term? At what point would he be bestowed "lame duck" status? Would it change at all? Or would it go into effect when an opponent gathered enough delegates or wait until the convention? What would such an event look like?

For sure from the point in time when losing the nomination is a foregone conclusion. Probably for many months before that if he is trailing to the extent that it is unlikely that he could recapture a lead. But if he ever does manage to get enough of a grip to effectively run his agenda (which he clearly hasn't yet established), he will lose it the second that a real contender for the nomination announces that he/she is in the race.

Could Trump get Primaried?
My hope is that he doesn't remain in office long enough for that question to have to be answered...

Absent a huge revelation I don't see that happening before mid terms I don't see that happening and post mid terms Trump will be in full time campaign mode.
