Police have closed London Bridge amid witness reports that a white van has veered off the road and hit five or six pedestrians and are responding to another incident at Borough Market nearby.
The BBC has reported one of its journalists, Holly Jones, was on the bridge at the time and said the van was "probably travelling at about 50 miles an hour". Jones estimated about five people were injured after the van mounted the kerb.

The BBC's Nick Quraishi at the scene says he is now able to corroborate earlier reports of gunshots being fired.
Reports suggest it may have been more than one incident:
- A van hitting people at London Bridge and three people then jumping out of the vehicle and attacking members of the public;
- A separate incident at Borough Market
- Police have now said they are responding to a third incident in Vauxhall
It is understood that police are looking for three suspects who may be armed.

Just heard Vauxhall is an unrelated stabbing - but who knows?
Just terrible, anyway.
I fear this is the new normal; Israel has lived with this kind of terror for decades:
http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/terrori ... elsum.html
Total reported casualties from terrorist attacks 1948-2017 (including attacks not listed in the Chronology) are 3,671 killed and 14,704 injured (these figures include terrorists). Casualties in these terrorist attacks include at least 222 children killed and 240 injured . . .

London terror attack: Theresa May vows to battle 'Islamist extremism'
London (CNN)British Prime Minister Theresa May claimed there was "too much tolerance" of Islamist extremism in the UK as she vowed a clampdown in the wake of the third terror attack to hit the UK this year.
Seven people died and 48 were injured when three masked men drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge before leaping out and launching a stabbing spree in nearby bars and restaurants.
Police said the three attackers, wearing fake suicide belts to sow further panic,
were shot dead within eight minutes of police receiving the first emergency call
just after 10 p.m. local time.
Speaking in Downing Street five days before the UK general election, May described the latest attack as "brutal" and said extremism had to be defeated. "We cannot and must not pretend that things can continue as they are," she said. "Enough is enough."
While May insisted that the recent attacks in Westminster, Manchester and London Bridge were unconnected, she warned that they were bound together by the "single evil ideology of Islamist extremism."
"It is an ideology that claims our Western values of freedom, democracy and human rights are incompatible with the religion of Islam," she said.
"It is an ideology that is a perversion of Islam and a perversion of the truth.
"Defeating this ideology is one of the great challenges of our time, but it cannot be defeated by military intervention alone.
"Since the emergence of the threat from Islamist-inspired terrorism, our country has made significant progress in disrupting plots and protecting the public. But it is time to say `Enough is enough'."

London Bridge attack: 'Four held' as police raid flats in Barking 'in connection with terror attack'
London Bridge attacks: 'Four held by police after Barking raid'
Four people are reportedly being held by police after an early morning raid on flats in Barking in connection with last night's attack on London Bridge.
The flat was home to one of the people suspected to have taken part in the stabbing rampage, sources told Sky News, but the Metropolitan Police did not immediately comment.

There are currently 17 in custody in relation to last month's Manchester bombing...
One might think that with an election looming this week, that this rash of attacks would hurt the party in power, but Labour is in no position to benefit politically when their party leader's "answer " for how to reduce terrorism is to adopt foreign policies that meet the approval of the terrorists...
If you're a British voter who wants to see a tougher approach to combating Jihadist terrorism, you sure as hell aren't going to pick the party of Jeremy Corbyn...

The arrest total is now up to 12...
And with 21 of the injured in critical condition, the death toll could rise...

The mother of 23-year-old Daniel O'Neill, who is recovering in hospital after being stabbed, told the BBC he had a seven-inch scar from the knife attack.
"He had just stepped outside the bar for a second and a man ran up to him and said 'this is for my family, this is for Islam' and stuck a knife in him," Elisabeth O'Neill said.
According to another witness, Eric, the men inside jumped out once the van crashed and "ran towards the people that they nearly ran over". "[Then] they literally just started kicking them, punching them, they took out knives... it was a rampage really," he said. One man, Gerard, told the BBC he saw a woman being stabbed "10 or 15 times" by men shouting "This is for Allah".
But already the apologists and appeasers are saying we mustn't say anything bad about Muslims/Islam, and that the UK is to blame due to us selling weapons to Saudi Arabia.
From a UK forum I use;
on 18:41 Sun
These attacks have nothing to do with religion, and everything to do with the legacy of Western colonialism, the reality of Western imperialism, and the suffering, impoverishment and war to which these people are constantly subjugate.
To all those who have replied - you are national chauvinists and shy racists. I'm going to ask one question: where are the vigils for the starving children of Yemen, whose suffering and death can largely be attributed to arms sales from our very own country?
In reply to both you and mark s. Islam is not the source of terrorism. History alone is enough to tell us that. Terrorism is the result of poverty and daily humiliation, and of oppression and imperialist plunder. It is the result of a rather particular sense of powerlessness and persecution and suffering, the kind of which is enough to lead someone to feel such a desperate hatred towards their oppressor that they are willing to give up their life to have a chance to strike back, and perhaps lay bare the sources of their aggrievement and suffering to those both involved and complicit in it. Islamaphobia plays into the hands of ISIS as it makes young impressionable Muslim men in Western countries have these feelings of unfair persecution. That is why it is so important to squash this naive and racist myth.

Typical Aussie report..
An Australian man has detailed how he cheated death in the London terror attack after he was stabbed in the neck outside a central London bar on his last night in the UK. The Darwin electrician, Andrew Morrison, recalled his ordeal while receiving treatment after he was caught in the terror that killed seven people and injured 48 others on Saturday night, local time. In a video posted online, Morrison can be seen holding a bloodied gauze pad to his throat while he describes the moment a terrorist attacked him.
He says he finished watching the UEFA Champions League grand final at Belushi's London Bridge on his final night in London, when he walked across the road and was stabbed.
walked outside, walked across the road and a fight breaks out and I'm like 's*** what's going on here?',' he says. 'I start to walk towards it and all of a sudden a guy comes up to me with a knife ... stabs me ... and I push him off, blood is going everywhere.
'He got me, but I dodged it. I ducked and weaved.'
'He looked like, I hate because, you know, I know the thing with Muslims and terrorism, but he looked like a f***ing Muslim terrorist,' he said.
Andrew tells a man in the video he was caught in the terror just hours before he was meant to leave the UK. 'Mate, this is my last night in London and I'm supposed to fly back tomorrow,' he says in the video.

Gob--
Terrorism is the result of poverty and daily humiliation, and of oppression and imperialist plunder. Apologists aside, do you disagree with that? Most conflict is economically-based, which permit the rabble rousers to come in and whip up some into a frenzy. Sure, for some islam is a way of dividing the world into "us" and "them", with god on the "us" side, but the people are ultimately striking out at what they perceive as oppression, whether they say they are fighting for god or not. Any responses have to be carefully calculated so a not to push others across that divide, unless we are willing, as Trump is espousing, to "permanently" divide the world into two camps based on some religious differences which are not the root cause of the problem. We can either learn to live together, or we can keep fighting; and while actions like this lend an emotional appeal to the latter, it will not work.

While I'm certainly not buying this:
Terrorism is the result of poverty and daily humiliation, and of oppression and imperialist plunder.
as an anywhere
near complete or entirely accurate explanation for Islamcist terrorism, (there are
numerous examples of people who don't come from economically deprived or "oppressed" backgrounds who have been drawn to to this nihlistic death-cult ideology. The author of that piece seems to me to be engaging in lefty ideologically driven over-simplification; it's much more complex with many more factors than he posits.)
This:
it is a religious war
is a
profoundly wrong-headed and bigoted view, evincing a complete ignorance of the subject... (the kind of complete know-nothingism that makes wes such a soulmate of rube's....)
One need look no further than to realize that all of the Muslims who have denounced these attacks and the twisted interpretations of Islam that inspire them, and who come to the aid of the victims of them , and who have marched in solidarity against them with others in their communities, and have provided law enforcement with the tips needed to foil numerous attacks (in the US,
most of the Islamist terrorist attacks that have been thwarted have involved intel coming from the Muslim community) are all
members of the religion that we are supposedly "at war" with...
If this is a "religious war", apparently
a lot of Muslims didn't get the memo; they're fighting on the wrong side...
I kind of envy you wes...
It must be so much easier and less intellectually taxing to simply adopt uncritically the toxic, ignorant, hate-filled bromides of your Maximum Leader as your own thoughts and positions, then to do the difficult work of learning the facts and thinking for yourself...
