So I just read a Guardian piece that discusses the documents being released about President Kennedy’s assassination and I gather the CIA and FBI had more than enough information on Oswald to have prevented the tragedy altogether.

That really sucks ass.

What would be different in our history had Kennedy not been assassinated? All speculation welcomed . . .

An interesting question, but few muysings to start things off:

Kennedy cemented us into Vietnam, and its interesting to speculate whether he would have followed Johnsons escalation spiral. He is mixed on military policy--contrast the Bay of Pigs with the Cuba Missile Crisis--but I would think he'd be more likely to try and sell the war to the people than Johnson was, so who knows where it would have gone?

Kennedy had a fairly mixed record on civil rights (he let the FBI wiretap Martin Luther King, e.g.) and I doubt he could have gotten the Civil rights legislation enacted that Johnson did (or even would have tried). How much more violence in the streets this would have generated is anyone's guess.

Can you say 'misdirection' ?

I see this document dump as little more than another dumpster fire to create yet another smokescreen for Trump.  The only difference between this little attention-diverter and the ones that Trump has employed before is that this one was mandated long before Trump came onto the scene, and is therefore not of his own doing.  But that's not going to stop him from taking full advantage of it anyway.

And it's also designed to heap some discredit on the FBI, (for decisions and behavior that took place more than 50 years ago under Hoover) which Mueller has hard on his ass...
