The Republican Party is dead. Dead. DEAD.
I hope you're right, but I fear a pretty big comeback in November.

Ron DeSantis is promising to have Florida’s child protective services investigate parents who take their kids to drag shows.

God forbid children should see grown ups play dress up. Like they do on several prime times shows on television that are huge ratings hits and certainly have millions of children in the viewing audience.

The Republican Party is dead. Dead. DEAD.
If it weren't for the jaw-dropping hypocrisy, the jokes would write themselves.

That’s the MAGAt Party. The Trump Party. The America First Fascist Party.

Anyone who watched the hearing last night saw a glimpse of the old GOP, in the person of Liz Cheney. As she said, someday Trump will be gone but the so-called GOP members who follow and protect him now will live with the stain for all time.

Indeed. The manner in which figures like Liddy and Bork were later embraced by Republicans, and how history was rewritten to cast Watergate as a Democratic conspiracy, should have been been the clue there was no level of misconduct that Republicans would be unwilling to overlook for one of their own.

I think I'd be inclined to let him have a couple of 'attorneys' with him to give him precious legal advice: Guiliani and Sidney Powell would be my choices. I'd love to see them advise him to take the Fifth.

“After our last hearing. President Trump tried to call a witness in our investigation. A witness you have not yet seen in these hearings,” Rep. Liz Cheney, the vice chair of the committee, said on Tuesday. “That person declined to answer or respond to President Trump’s call and instead alerted their lawyer to the call. Their lawyer alerted us. And this committee has supplied that information to the Department of Justice,” she added.

Former President Donald Trump complained that he couldn’t give himself the Medal of Honor, America’s highest award to recognize valor in military combat.
“In fact, as President, I wanted to give myself the Congressional Medal of Honor, but they wouldn’t let me do it, they wouldn't let me do it, I said I'm going to give myself the Congre...I've always wanted that, but they wouldn't let me do that, they said that would be inappropriate, I said okay, but...”

ETA: the quote and the video are from Trump's speech to Turning Point USA's 'Student Action Summit' in Tampa, FL on July 23, 2022.

You know, I believe this... because to be honest with you, there's not a lot that has come out — or is coming out — about Trump that is utterly beyond belief.  Just about the time you hear or read of something that makes you shake your head and say, "Naaah, now they're just making up shit..." — voila!!  Turns out it's true ... every last little bit of it!

That guy wasn't a president; he was an over-the-top caricature of every little banana republic leader ever...  even the ones in the funny pages and the movies.  I'm just surprised that when Trump was told he couldn't do it, he didn't immediately create some new award like "The Presidential Medal of Honor for Supreme Patriotism" and present it to himself.  Or even better, "The Order of MAGA", with himself as the founder, first recipient, and forever-eternal Grand and Supreme Poo-bah (even posthumously).

Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls for Defunding Law Enforcement

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) demanded on Thursday that the Department of Justice be defunded, which would spell the end of several major federal law enforcement organizations.

Greene quote-tweeted a video of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) questioning DOJ official Matthew Olsen during a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee earlier in the day.
“Defund the DOJ!!!” she exclaimed.

Defunding the DOJ would mean an end to the FBI, ATF, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the U.S. Marshals Service, and other enforcement agencies. It would also mean the end of federal prosecutions.

I think that, even in a crowded field, Greene has for a while been the most total fucking idiot of them all. Mind you some of them, like her buddy Matt Goetz and her rival Lauren Boebert occasionally stick their necks out in front in that race, but my money is on Greene.
