The Lastest Big Lie..."Spygate"...

Post by Lord Jim »

The latest despicable, shamelessly dishonest diversion attack to discredit federal law enforcement, the institutions of government designed to thwart the abuse of Executive power, and our Constitutional system of checks and balances in general from the POS-In-Chief...

The mythological "spygate" (aided of course by his equally despicable gang of Anti-Constitution collaborators on Capitol Hill):
Trump Repeats Unconfirmed Claims of Campaign Spying

WASHINGTON — President Trump accused federal investigators on Wednesday of using a spy inside his campaign, repeating unconfirmed claims and saying it could be one of the “biggest political scandals in history,” as administration officials bowed to political pressure to change plans to share information about the informant with Congress.

In a series of Twitter posts early Wednesday about the continuing Russia investigation, Mr. Trump briefly departed from his previous language about the possibility that the government deployed a spy inside his presidential campaign. Instead, he stated it as fact.

“Look how things have turned around on the Criminal Deep State,” he wrote. “They go after Phony Collusion with Russia, a made up Scam, and end up getting caught in a major SPY scandal the likes of which this country may never have seen before! What goes around, comes around!”

Hours later, Mr. Trump slightly backed off, telling reporters, “I hope it’s not true, but it looks like it is.”

But the president has decidedly joined his allies in Congress in an offensive against the Justice Department, calling for law enforcement officials to share documents related to an informant who approached several of his campaign advisers who had been in contact with suspected Russian agents. The use of the informant was to glean information about what the aides knew about the Russian efforts to hack into Democratic emails — not to spy on Mr. Trump’s campaign, according to people familiar with the matter.

Top intelligence and law enforcement officials had been scheduled to meet Thursday with only Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, purportedly to share the highly classified information about the informant that the lawmakers have demanded.

But after senators from both parties, including the majority leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, worked behind the scenes, the administration scheduled a second meeting to share the delicate information with the so-called Gang of Eight party leadership on Thursday afternoon.

The group is made up of the Republican and Democratic leaders of both chambers and the top members of the intelligence committees, and is typically the venue through which the government’s most sensitive secrets are shared with Congress.

Participants in the meetings were expected to include Christopher A. Wray, the F.B.I. director; Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general; and Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, along with other F.B.I. and Justice Department officials.

This is the latest installment in the completely fanciful, cooked up story of some imagined "deep state plot" to thwart the campaign of Donald Trump...

When of course all the available evidence shows the exact opposite...

That the FBI, the Justice Department, and the the Obama Administration itself, bent over backwards to avoid any public revelations that could be damaging to Trump regarding it's investigation, (based on the strongest possible evidence, as we now know) into possible Russian contacts with high-ranking members of the Trump campaign...

Trump's transparently cynical claim that there was some political motivation behind this designed to undermine his campaign is rendered self-evidently ludicrous by the fact that not one word about this investigation was ever leaked to the press during the campaign. What's the "argument" here? That this was politically motivated, but then for some reason no political use was made of it? :loon

On the contrary, the record clearly shows that everything that came publicly from the FBI and the Justice Department during the campaign was damaging to Hillary Clinton NOT Donald Trump...

Andrew McCabe was fired for not being honest with FBI investigators about a leak to a WSJ reporter that was damaging to Hillary Clinton...

The famous Rosenstein Memo (that Trump initially claimed was the basis for firing James Comey before admitting on national television that the real motive was to obstruct justice in the Russia investigation) was devoted exclusively to criticizing Comey for actions he took during the campaign that were damaging to Hillary Clinton NOT Donald Trump...

The Justice Dept. IG report that was made public that found that Clinton's private email server was unauthorized, (contrary to her repeated claims) obviously was damaging to Clinton, not Trump...

Believe me, I'm not pointing all this out because I'm joining the "poor, poor, Hillary" chorus...

Far from it. I said it before, and I'm happy to repeat it; Hillary Clinton has no one but herself to blame for all the political damage that came to her as a result of her arrogant decision to store classified material on an unauthorized private email server. No unauthorized server, none of that happens; full stop.

I'm pointing it out because facts matter, and the facts show, (even though I hold Hillary ultimately responsible for it) that everything that came from the FBI during the campaign was damaging to her campaign, and nothing damaging to the Trump campaign ever came from the FBI.

Those are the proven, established facts.

Meanwhile, despite all the phony diversions and the gibbering antics of The Howdy Rudy Show...
Mueller team says Russia probe is ongoing with 'with multiple lines of non-public inquiry'

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the 2016 U.S. presidential race remains an ongoing criminal matter involving multiple aspects unbeknownst to the public, his team said in a court filing late Wednesday, suggesting no end in sight for the probe as it starts its second year.

The special counsel’s office specified the continuing nature of its probe in a 23-page document filed in D.C. federal court in response to a lawsuit brought by several news outlets seeking access to search warrants, applications, affidavits and other records related Mr. Mueller’s investigation into the 2016 race.

“The request for broad unsealing of search warrant materials should be denied,” Mr. Mueller’s team wrote in the filing. “The Special Counsel’s investigation is not a closed matter, but an ongoing criminal investigation with multiple lines of non-public inquiry. No right of public access exists to search warrant materials in an ongoing investigation.”

A former FBI director, Mr. Mueller was appointed special counsel by the Department of Justice last May following the firing of his successor, James Comey, and tasked with continuing the latter’s investigation into the 2016 election, including any possible ties between President Trump’s campaign and Russia.

The probe has since expanded to cover whether Mr. Trump obstructed justice by firing Mr. Comey, according to multiple news reports. Some 22 individuals and entities have been charged by the special counsel’s office so far, including several former members of the Trump presidential election campaign.

wes, perhaps I missed it, but how was the life of Hope Hicks ruined; because she had to testify? Because she chose to/had to tell the truth?

as for Jackson, where were those allegations of drinking and drugs part of the investigation? Indeed, was Jackson even part of the investigation?

"On February 27, 2018, Hicks testified to a Congressional committee that she had told "white lies" on Trump's behalf.[7][8][9] The next day, Hicks announced her intention to resign as White House Communications Director.[10][11] She left the White House a month later.[12]" copied from Wikipedia. The only job she had beyond 'teen-age' model' is publicity flack for the Trump family. Nothing about what she is doing now. The Trump family will not hire her any more?

Dr. Jackson now is still a physician, still collecting pay as an active duty Rear Admiral, with all the perks that entails. I should have a life so ruined.

Of course they won't, since she apparently didn't lie for them.

As for Jackson, still a two star admiral and still working as a physician (and not having to shill for Donald and invent new ways to extol his health), it seems he came out quite good.

Just why does he lie so much? Proforma CinC speech at the Naval academy, and he had to lie about the military pay, the military budget, the size of the fleet. This is a link to the Rachel Madow blog, but it goes to a piece written by Steve Benen

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show ... litary-pay

POTUS just seems incapable of telling the truth about anything. Spygate? He was informed in a security briefing shortly after he became the GOP nominee that the Russians were going to attempt to infiltrate and influence his campaign. Any reasonable person running for office would expect that such would trigger an FBI interest.

I am still waiting for someone to explain the well publicized GOP campaign platform development at the GOP convention. The Trump people negotiated within the platform drafting process with only one stipulation--the platform could say anything about anything and the Trump organization would not object as long as the platform did not say anything about Russian activity in Ukraine.

No collusion?

He's a classic sociopath.

From the Steve Benen piece linked by SG:
All of which leads to an awkward question: what kind of president lies to servicemen and women about their pay?

Trey Gowdy on Fox News:
  • It was President Trump himself who said “Number one, I didn’t collude with Russia, but if anyone connected with my campaign did, I want the FBI to find that out.” It looks like the FBI was doin’ what Trump said I want you to do. Find it out.
