There has been a long standing precedent that when a employees are working under a contract negotiated by a labor union, it is not required that all worker join the union, but non-member, because they get the benefits of the contract, should pay something to the union for that service. Not full dues as paid by members, but something.
The Supremes just killed that, at least for government workers. And that is the last labor sector with major union involvement.

Private unions and public unions are completely different animals and it is disingenuous to not recognize those differences.
Private unions are still strong in certain sectors, and there is surprising recent membership growth in other sectors. The overall decline of private union membership from its heyday is caused in large part by the success of those unions in improving wages, working conditions, etc. which have raised the bar for employers to attract and keep quality employees.
