There has been a long standing precedent that when a employees are working under a contract negotiated by a labor union, it is not required that all worker join the union, but non-member, because they get the benefits of the contract, should pay something to the union for that service. Not full dues as paid by members, but something.
The Supremes just killed that, at least for government workers. And that is the last labor sector with major union involvement.
