RT America, the U.S.-based media outlet funded by Vladimir Putin’s Russian government, issued a lengthy statement of condolence on Thursday after the death of American broadcaster Ed Schultz, who was an anchor for the channel since 2016.
“Ed was a champion of the American working class. He saw government as a potential force for good, gave voice to labor unions, spoke inconvenient truths about American foreign policy, and wanted the U.S. to be a role model for the world,” read a statement from the network. “He was praised for his ability to think creatively, ask the tough questions, and give opponents the benefit of the doubt.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Schultz’s bosses, who took care to note his “patriotism.”[Yeah, becoming a paid propagandist for a regime engaged in undermining your country's elections="patriotism"...absolutely hilarious.... ]
“He was an unconditional patriot of his country, an honest and principled man,” said RT chief editor Margarita Simonyan. “When the campaign against RT America began and the channel was forced to register as a ‘foreign agent,’ Ed set an example for all of us, saying: ‘Let them call me what they want, I am going to speak the truth no matter what.'”[Stop it...you're killin' me ]
RT, formally known as “Russia Today,” had long been derided by media critics as a mouthpiece of the Russian government designed to spew Kremlin propaganda. In November, 2017 it was forced to register with the U.S. government as a foreign agent.
Since the launch of their English language “America” bureau, the network sought to enlist high-profile American stars like Schultz and CNN icon Larry King to convey its message.
In a memorial of its own, RT’s sister propaganda network Sputnik tellingly remembered Schlutz for how he “pushed back against claims in the mainstream US media that Russia had interfered in the presidential election in favor of Donald Trump.”
Schultz’s unfounded claims fit well into Vladimir Putin preferred narrative, but is broadly at odds with a wide consensus of of United States intelligence agencies and members of both parties.
Before joining RT, Schultz spent six years an an anchor for MSNBC.
I don't have much to say about Ed Schultz; I only saw his MSNBC show a couple of times and it didn't do anything for me one way or the other, I just recall him seeming a bit over the top (like Keith Olbermann in that way). I don't know what stories or positions he was pushing on RT or whether they would qualify as shilling for Putin. I liked RT for The Alyona Show -- I thought Alyona Minkovski did a very good job with interviews and reporting; smart, prepared and usually brought a fresh angle. I don't think RT is significantly more of a propaganda outlet than is Fox News; it's clearly got an overarching point of view, but I'd evaluate its programs individually.

If you're a Russian election meddling denier, and you get your paychecks from the Putin regime to broadcast that message, (as his employers have taken the occasion of his death to brag about) that sure qualifies as a paid shill in my book...
My basic cable from Verizon FiOS includes RT, OAN, French 24 news, but not BBC news. IMNSHO, OAN is more effective as propaganda than RT, Fox, MSNBC, CNN because it is more subtle, not so in-your-face with a point of view, but the right-slant is very much there.
I used to watch RT quite often just to get a sense of what Putin's henchmen were up to. Then all this Trump/Russian hacking stuff became big news and shortly thereafter Comcast/Xfinity dropped the channel. I don't miss RT but I do like to know how the other side is thinking.

Wow Jim I didn’t even know this network existed. I miss a lot by not having cable and working so much. I wonder if it is on satellite radio? I would like to check them out just to see what they are about.
You say that Russia is an enemy nation, but is it? Are we at war with the Russians either hot or cold? Have they killed Americans either directly or through surrogates? During the Cold War, the Soviets and their Cuban allies killed Americans, but the Cold War is over and the Russians are no longer soviets.

Safety and security is found by subduing and controlling all the peoples around them, which is never enough and requires constant expansion. Leadership is found in a strong, totally controlling single person--Caesar, the Czar, Stalin, President Putin.

I think liberty is engaging a rhetoric tactic now called 'what about. . . ' to move the focus of the discussion away from facts that Liberty prefers to avoid. However, Iran is also engaged in Syria.
