Terrorism.

Post by Lord Jim »

No matter where one stands on the Kavanaugh nomination, I hope there's one thing we can all agree on...

This vile, terrorizing garbage (whether directed at Kavanaugh and his family, or Ford and hers) is absolutely unacceptable, should be thoroughly and vigorously investigated by the appropriate authorities, and when a perp is identified they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law:
Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford receiving death threats

Washington (CNN)Both Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the professor who has accused of him of sexual assault as a teenager, have received a slew of death threats in recent days, CNN has learned.

Citing an internal law enforcement report that details threats to the protectee, a senior administration official told CNN Thursday that the number of death threats made against Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh and his family have increased since Ford's allegations came to light. The official said there are several current threats against the Kavanaughs that law enforcement deems credible, while several others have been opened and closed since he was nominated.

Kavanaugh, who is married with two daughters, has received around-the-clock protection from US Marshals since President Donald Trump nominated him to the bench in July. Negotiations are ongoing for a possible public hearing next week with Kavanaugh and Ford.

Kavanaugh's wife Ashley is the town manager of the area of Chevy Chase, Maryland, where they live. She has also been harassed, receiving multiple graphic emails from her husband's critics since he was accused of assault. In one email received Tuesday, an Internet user wrote "Hi Ashley" in the subject line.

"My condolences to you for being married to a rapist. Although you probably deserve it," the person wrote in an email obtained by CNN.

Another message sent Wednesday had the subject line, "F*** YOU AND YOUR RAPIST HUSBAND."

Both emails were sent to her government email account.

Ford, who is also married with two teenaged sons, has received death threats of her own.

In an email sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday, Ford's attorney Debra Katz wrote, "As you are aware, she has been receiving death threats, which have been reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and she and her family have been forced out of their home."

Ford's other attorney, Lisa Banks, also wrote a letter to the committee saying that her client had been the subject of "vicious harassment," including death threats.

"As a result of these kind of threats, her family was forced to relocate out of their home. Her email has been hacked, and she has been impersonated online," Banks wrote in the letter.

Ford has not been seen publicly for several days.
This sort of thing is a truly awful commentary on the poisonous and ugly level to which our political divisions have sunk, but in an age when the parents of a murdered seven year old child are terrorized with death threats and have to move multiple times for their own safety, it's not really surprising...

I'm not a big fan of over extending the use of the word "terrorism" into areas where it really doesn't apply, but in the case of these threats, it seems to me that treating them and prosecuting them as acts of terrorism (no matter what side the terrorist is on) is entirely appropriate...
ter·ror·ism
ˈterəˌrizəm/
noun
noun: terrorism
the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.
If this ain't the unlawful use of intimidation against civilians in the pursuit of political aims, I don't know what is...

I'd be perfectly happy with a first offense mandatory 10 year minimum sentence for anyone convicted of engaging in this form of terrorism. A clear message needs to be sent to the twisted fucks in our society that do this sort of thing that it will not be tolerated.

Are you referencing Lenny Pozner and his ex wife? Just wondering if there is another case I’d missed . . . and it’s worth noting that while Lenny has relocated a number of times and is now living in hiding, all the parents of the Sandy Hook babies have been harassed and even stalked by psycho Alex Jones followers.

This is our disgusting society now - I lay the blame at the feet of Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones, Ann Coulter and all of that ilk. Yes, I recognize that there are now nutters on the other end of the spectrum who act out in the same vein as the right wing nutjob followers - but I can’t think of any liberal media figures who employed the kind of toxic hate spew with violent undertones as the aforementioned, and I credit Newt with launching the modern era of attack politics.

Yes...

When I first read several years ago about the parents of the Sandy Hook massacre victims actually being harassed and threatened it was absolutely mind boggling to me... :loon

How low a sadistic, twisted, bottom-feeding piece of human filth does one have to be to actually want to add to the suffering of someone already experiencing the unimaginable grief of losing a small child?

Just finding out that such creatures exist made me want to take a long hot shower... I'm ashamed to share the same species with such "people"; it makes me want to tear up my human race membership card ...

Just remember, they’ve been brainwashed by the likes of Alex Jones to believe that Pozner and the other ‘parents’ are crisis actors and the murdered babies never even existed.

When you wrap your head around that, the only people to loathe are the ones who make millions peddling conspiracy theories they don’t really believe to people who are naive or mentally ill and come to REALLY believe those theories, and who then believe that they are true patriots for calling out a corrupt deep state apparatus that is conspiring to take away 2nd Amendment rights enshrined in the Constitution.

If there are among those folks people who believe Sandy Hook happened the way it actually happened and still torment the survivors, those people are the lowest of scum - definitely. But my fury rests entirely with the psychopaths in the right wing entertainment industry who are intentionally stoking fear among the least intelligent and most mentally ill citizens in this country - they are EVIL FUCKERS who I would happily watch being burned alive and not bother to piss on them.

Am I hateful? Yes, I am FULL OF RAGE at how these monsters have conspired to destroy our country for profit.

I'll give the mentally ill a pass because they can't really help it, but the naïve or stupid? Nah, as long as they have a functioning brain I believe they have a responsibility to use it; I no more excuse those swept up in the conspiracy theory BS than I excuse the Manson family.

you know, I m a fan of FREE speech, even if you, jim, once claimed otherwise...,

I m even in favor of letting the Nazis and new black panthers march....

knowing your enemy is essential, I think...

....but alex jones?

he s had his say, and is at best a nutter, at worst he is attempting , thru propaganda, to incite civil war.

good riddance, I say.

I know him, he is the enemy, and his banishment is well agreed to, as far as I can see.

now, diamond and silk?

that is straight up bullshit, their shadowbanning, by the tech powers that be.

I m with Patrick henry.

old white racist woman hating white man that he was.

(I wonder if meade can appreciate men like henry, and john paul jones, and franklin, and Daniel boone, what with him being british and all....

I think that in his maturity he must admire them, as he must see the corruption of a Cromwell, or his son.

we, here in America, have no love for the tyrantas we have no love for the usurper.

we are a strange lot we libertarians.....

I have no party, and have refrained from registering republican...., but I would entertain being a libertarian..., if they weren t all idealistic cuckoo birds....

I ll just stick with Liberty, and gov t of, by and for the people and see what happens.

if there be war, there be war, I have no say in the matter.

(there you go , jm, I left you fodder, at the end, to allow you to make more baseless and contextually false statements regarding my positions.

like you well enough, but I don t appreciate you going all Madcow as far as distorting the truth of things.

it is unbecoming for and to a man of your intelligence and experience, and perhaps not wisdom.)

just saying....

Wes--Jim and BSG can well speak for themselves, but I am not sure either is saying that there should be a law against such speech, only that is should be exposed as the vile drivel it is. Free speech does not mean that the speech is, or should be, free from the criticism (fair or unfair) of others. That's the flip side of the liberty that Patrick Henry demanded.
