Well the man may have a career in standup comedy per his opening statement :

In less than two years, my administration has accomplished almost more than any other administration in the history of our country

Of course he doesn't get the joke or understand the laughter, so maybe not.

As Bugs Bunny says, what a maroon.

Public Speaking 101...

Open with a joke...

It really makes me swell with pride to have a President who's such a master at unintentional humor...

He was puzzled by the response because when he uses that line in front of of 10,000 salivating Trumpanzees he gets thunderous applause...

But he really can't expect a gathering of world leaders and senior career diplomats to be as stunningly ignorant of history as that lot...

The type ignorant enough to believe that a speech that embarrassing will "live in history"...

I take it that you two didn t actually watch the speech.

it was powerful, intelligent and I must say, quite moving.

but by all means you two let others tell you what you think about it.....

So what were three key takeaway messages from the speech for you, wes? Since you claim to have listened to it this time, and have never been able to answer this question when asked on previous occasions.

Moved me, all right — straight into the toilet where I produced another Trump supporter.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

wes--are you saying that he didn't say what I quoted? I was responding to the statement, which I am pretty sure was quoted verbatim--it clearly sounds like him. But please, let me know if that was inaccurate.

As for listening to his speech, I cannot abide hearing his voice for more an a minute at a time, but I did read the transcript (it is available online) and saw nothing particularly inspiring or even pithy. So even though I didn't listen to him deliver it, I have a good idea of what was said.

yes , rr, I believe that what you said was accurate.

however, it was endearing and well received by many there...., it appeared to me that they all, including trump, shared a laugh, I know that I smiled.

maybe you can stomach that much and watch.

then see if the actual moment was accurately reported.

it wasn t, in my view.

How did I know that wes would be incapable of coming up with three things he remembered from the speech?

I really should start playing the ponies.

Well this little faux pas triggered another Facebook tear from my cousin.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Well wes, regardless of what the audience did or didn't do, I thought it was an asinine comment of the self aggrandizing type the Trump always makes. I honestly can't see how they would be "sharing a laugh", because in Trump's mind this is the truth, not a joke or, even in the slightest bit, an exaggeration.

Trump literally ran for President on the argument that the world was laughing at the United States and its leader. Of course they weren't, but they certainly are now.

I guess I'm laughing with him. No, it's really at him.

And wes, I just watched the beginning of the speech on CNN; it doesn't look to me like they were sharing a laugh (or anything else for that matter); he did try to recover by saying he didn't expect that response, but I think the lughter was divided into two types, those who laughed at him and those who nervously laughed because they were embarrassed for him (kind of like when you were a kid and you grandfather or old uncle farted in from of everyone).

we are all in on the joke, RR.....

lighten up man.

if he didn t say he was doing HUGE things we would think that something was wrong.

the rest of the speech was deadly serious and I agreed with all that I heard of it, I did doze off for a bit and missed him addressing china and iran....,

And yet you still can't name three key messages you remember from it.

Yep, that sure must have been a speech for the history books.

Which (like ADD and poor reading ability) is probably a good life skill for a Trumpanzee...

Being able to recognize the difference between being laughed 'with" and laughed "at" would probably have a really bad impact on their self-esteem...

WE are not in the "joke"; indeed, I don't think it is one. This man is a legend in his own mind, and if it is because he claims this legendary status, that I think something is wrong--with him.

As for the rest of the speech, it seems like a rehash of the same crap--vilifying those he didn't like (like Iran) and then self aggrandizing about his "accomplishments". Nothing to see here so far as I could tel, but h is obviously playing yo a audience that was not in the UN.

hey, I ll tell you what I tell my kid, jim....

either way you are laughing....

RR, the talk of national sovereignty, and of enabling refugees to fix their own countries was important I think.

of each allowing the other to be .

of not succumbing to some un accountable world burocracy.....

of the failures of socialism and communism.....

so much more.....

if you read the whole transcript you must have seen these themes and understood their import.

you may not agree with those policies, but half the country does, and WE are in on the joke.

the snowglobe has been well and truly shaken and it is good.

PS- and making clear that if you shout death to America in your halls of govt, you get nothing but trouble from us

and if you are not our friend and you work against us, you get nothing from us....

these things are right.

the praise for India was brilliant, strategy and it was the right thing to do.

india is a natural ally.

his shift toward india may, in the long run, be his best policy shift.

I ll tell you something that will allow you to criticize me....

think about all the indian hindus you have met, and then tell me about all the Pakistani muslims that you have met

in my experience, from doctors to store owners, I can tell who I trust and who I don t

there is no comparison.

if noting my honest observstions prompts you to call me racist, so be it.

I really don t care anymore, your party has beat that horse to death and those things are no longer taken seriously by half the country, at least.....

we ll soon see in noviembre.....
