Too bad someone didn't say that — or something along the line out of Trump's 2015 book "Crippled America: How To Make America Great Again" about how we "only want good people to come here" — to Trump's grandpa back in 1885 when he landed in New York as an underaged kid with no occupation dodging military service in Bavaria.

In 1885, at age 16, Trump emigrated via Bremen, Germany, to the United States aboard the steamship Eider, departing on October 7 and arriving at the Castle Garden Emigrant Landing Depot in New York City on October 19.  U.S. immigration records list his name as "Friedr. Trumpf" and his occupation as "none".

Several years later, in 1891, he moved to the Northwest.  He made his fortune by operating restaurants and boarding houses (brothels) in Seattle and the mining town Monte Cristo, and brothels in the Klondike Gold Rush.

Due to [his wife's] extreme homesickness, the family returned to Germany [in 1904].  Soon after the family arrived in Germany, Bavarian authorities determined that Trump had emigrated from Germany to avoid his military-service obligations, and he was classified as a draft dodger.  On 24 December 1904 the Department of Interior announced an investigation to expel Trump from Germany.  Officially, they found that he had violated the Resolution of the Royal Ministry of the Interior number 9916, an 1886 law that punished emigration to North America to avoid military service with the loss of German citizenship.  In February 1905, a royal decree was issued ordering Trump to leave within eight weeks due to having emigrated to evade military service and failing to register his departure with the authorities.  For several months, Trump petitioned the government to allow him to stay but he was unsuccessful.

But he was one of the "good people", right?

Why is it nothing can be found on the web for the 1968 war crimes trial of the U.S. in Sweden. Are you going to say it never happened and you never waved Viet Cong Flags?

No, by my standards what you did during the Cold War to "oppose the communist" is your own business. The country called and you responded ... or so you claim ... although from the sounds of it you were more of the "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" or the "Kill 'em all; let God sort 'em out" kind of guy than the reluctant but resigned draftee.  But if you can live with that, more power to you.  I think you're an asshole because of some of your more-recent postings, not your ancient history.

Fuckin' A right I never waved any Viet Cong flags or wore SDS armbands or faced off against National Guard troops like at Kent State.  Did I volunteer?  No, of course not.  Keep in mind that when the VietNam War was 'hot', such as when the My Lai massacre or the Tet offensive occurred, I was 13 years old and in 8th grade, and I was 15 and a sophomore in high school when Kent State went down.  But when I did turn 18 in the latter part of 1972 I did register for Selective Service; I didn't burn my draft card (in fact, I've still got it around here somewhere); and while I never heard anything more of it other than registration and initial classification as '1-H', had I been called up for medical evaluation/classification and/or induction, you can betcher sweet ass I'd have been there.

And as for your ignorant comment that "nothing can be found on the web for the 1968 war crimes trial of the US in Sweden", you couldn't be any more full of shit unless you were a port-a-potty at a construction site.  There is literally no end to the amount of material I found on the Russell Tribunal, as it was called, just by doing a casual Google search.  The chief point is that this was not a "War Crimes Trial" or a "Tribunal" convened by any legitimate government entity; it was "a private body organized by British philosopher and Nobel Prize winner Bertrand Russell and hosted by French philosopher and writer Jean-Paul Sartre.  Along with Lelio Basso (an Italian democratic socialist politician and journalist), Ken Coates (a British politician and writer), Ralph Schoenman (an American left-wing activist and personal secretary to Mr. Russell), Julio Cortázar (an Argentine novelist, short story writer, and essayist) and several others, the tribunal investigated and evaluated American foreign policy and military intervention in Vietnam, following the 1954 defeat of French forces at Diên Biên Phu and the establishment of North and South Vietnam.  The tribunal did not investigate alleged war crimes by the Viet Cong." — which means it carried about as much weight as a conference on Hilary Clinton's e-mails convened by the talking heads of Faux News and chaired by Dumb'old Trump.  Anybody with half the sense God gave to a gopher could plainly see that this "Russell Tribunal" was a left-wing kangaroo court of no consequence whatsoever.

I have a lot of objections to the perpetual war machine that sends the young sons of the mostly poor and working classes to be fodder for conflicts that enrich war profiteers, so you’re right, I generally admire draft resistance.

The honest kind, wherein a person registers for selective service (and I think women should be eligible for the draft) and then asserts conscientious objection, or seeks asylum in Canada while openly declaring opposition to the war, as tens of thousands of American draft resisters and military deserters did during Vietnam. (At which time and since Canadian society benefitted greatly from the influx of bright, progressive thinkers.)

The kind of draft DODGING where money is spent by wealthy parents to persuade physicians to lie and give a patently false diagnosis to a punk puke rich brat to buy a draft deferment based on a nonexistent health condition so the dodger can boast of his ‘personal Vietnam’ of unprotected sexual encounters at Studio 54, etc. is the utterly despicable and entirely unacceptable kind of draft avoidance. No consequences or cost to the puke and he spends the rest of his life lying about how he avoided Vietnam while denigrating persons of superior character who chose to serve with honor.

There is serving with honor, there is resisting/deserting with honor, and there is lying like a weasel all your damn life like Trump has done.

I accept that perhaps you are not a closet communist. I generally believe what people say on the web; I don’t see why people would lie in the cyber worlds, there is nothing to lose. But some must be lying because there were a lot of liberals that wanted the communist to win the Cold War.
