I remember it from the Dr. Demento radio show...
It actually goes back more than 70 years:

It actually goes back more than 70 years:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaving_Cream_(song)"Shaving Cream" is a song written by Benny Bell in 1946, and originally sung by Paul Wynn.[1] It is a novelty song where each verse ends with a mind rhyme of shit, the initial sh- segueing into the refrain, "Shaving Cream"; for example:
"I have a sad story to tell you
It may hurt your feelings a bit
Last night when I walked into my bathroom
I stepped in a big pile of ...shhhhh . . . aving cream,
be nice and clean. . . .
Shave ev'ry day and you'll always look keen."
The original version of "Shaving Cream" was issued on Bell's Cocktail Party Songs record label in 1946, with Phil Winston on vocals under the pseudonym Paul Wynn, and, as that name was also used by Bell himself, Winston's version has often been mistaken for Bell's, and has appeared on Benny Bell compilation albums more frequently than Bell's own version.
After the song began to be played on the Dr. Demento radio show in the 1970s, Vanguard Records reissued the song in 1975, and it became a hit, peaking at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Early copies of the 1975 Vanguard single credited Bell as the performer.[2] However, after controversy ensued, the same recording was re-released with revised labels crediting Paul Wynn as performer.

Re: the vincent vendetta channel
I guess I heard it when it became repopularized, then, along with another song of my childhood called "My Ding-a-ling" that caused similar consternation.

I first heard "Shaving Cream" on a 'Sing Along With Mitch' album (or maybe it was "Sweet Violets"...)Scooter wrote:I guess I heard it when it became repopularized, then, along with another song of my childhood called "My Ding-a-ling" that caused similar consternation.
And you realize that Chuck Berry's version of "My Ding-a-Ling" was the only recording of his that reached #1 on the charts?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
Re: the vincent vendetta channel
True, but then it was the 70s and novelty songs did well. The Streak (Ray Stevens) (yep t was about what you think) also hit number one if I recall correctly,

Dirty underwear?
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
