Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace

Trump ordered the assassination of a high ranking general in retaliation for the Baghdad embassy incident.

Wouldn’t this be like another country assassinating our Joint Chiefs Chairman over any one of the hundreds of yucky military incursions we’ve been involved in over the last half century? Seems so to me. How would we react?

Let’s stay on the perpetual war wheel so more and more people can suffer.

The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous. Hierarchical society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance. This new version is the past and no different past can ever have existed. In principle the war effort is always planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over either Eurasia or East Asia, but to keep the very structure of society intact.
~ George Orwell, 1984

The sad thing is, there are too many vested interests who want us in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, etc. and don't want us to leave. But at least we know Eisenhower was right.

It's beyond me why someone credited with the attack on the US embassy in Iraq would fly in for a look see. Maybe he wanted to give a pep talk to the rioters. Maybe he wanted a Kodak moment.

Looks bogus to me. Do they have grass at the airport? I'm guessing he was abducted and he's now in a cell next to Epstein. In any case hope he didn't pay a lot for the mood ring.

It's equally likely that Trump ordered the assassination of Qassam Soleimani to distract from his impeachment and to provoke a shooting war with Iran in order to win reelection. (I'm sure you've all seen Trump's 2011 tweets and video claiming Obama would attack Iran to win reelection; he is literally just following his own "advice.") Trump needed something big to displace stories about the new details of his direct efforts to extort Ukraine, emerging from unredacted DoD and State emails reviewed by Just Security.

Remember, Trump never does anything without first asking "What's in it for me?"

Well there goes my impression that Darren was a somewhat sane Trump supporter.

There is no such thing. How could there be?

Given the short term memory of voters Trump will have to kill one Iranian general per month to ensure his re-election. That's nine more to go.

In other news, sanctions on Iran are working. Looks like China is having second thoughts although they've been importing but not importing Iranian oil by storing it in customs zones.

"China National Petroleum Corp. has pulled out of a $5 billion natural-gas project in Iran as escalating tensions threaten to sever Beijing’s trade with Tehran, a key lifeline for the Islamic Republic.

The exit by Beijing—which had vowed to resist U.S. restrictions on Iran—is a blow to Tehran’s attempts to fight growing economic isolation and comes after Washington brought new sanctions on Chinese companies still trading with Iran."

I'm sure Putin has been on the phone raising hell with his puppet, Trump. Or maybe not since oil traders have run the price of oil up.

That's it!

Trump and Putin colluded to drive oil prices up!

That Putin is one clever fellow getting Trump to kill the general.

Meanwhile the official CYA story, "Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday that the U.S. had embarked on an “illegal power” move and called for dialogue with Iran."

Just because Trump's version of Wag the Dog is inept and transparent, doesn't mean that isn't what he's up to. Perhaps your sons and your fellow MAGAts should be the first to line up at the recruiting office for what is to come, if you believe so fervently in the cause.

That was a great bit of dog wagging. The mullahs still have the shakes.

There were two cars for the greeters, Soleimani's entourage and guards.

The body guards got in the first car and Soleimani and entourage got into the second. Soleimani and company went boom first followed by the car with the guards about four hundred feet away going boom next.

It didn't have to be The Return of the Last Starfighter. Still the two on the control console deserve attaboys.

I'm sure all of that actually made sense to you while it was churning around in your brain.

It's making sense to lots of pro-Iranians including ex-pats that fled the country long ago. One settled locally after attending college. He married, raised three great kids and has been a stellar asset to the community including the Catholic Church. I'm glad Iranians may be a step closer to taking back their country.

I'm sure it bothers you that Trump's policies have made it nearly impossible for dissidents fleeing Iran to find refuge in the U.S.
