Former Trump Plaza casino in Atlantic City to be imploded.
The sooner the better, mayor says.
Plans to demolish the former Trump Plaza Casino in Atlantic City have been submitted, Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small said in a press conference Thursday afternoon.
Icahn Enterprises, which now owns the building, submitted plans to demolish the entire plaza by implosion, Small said. The company had previously planned on keeping the section of the building above the Rainforest Café standing, but is now set to demolish that as well.

Can the president of the United States ban its demolition?
Or at least can he be in it when the wrecking ball slams into it? That would be a win/win for all.

Debris and panels have fallen off from as high as the 34th floor of the building, Fire Chief Scott Evans said. The demolition company will put netting up around the building to prevent falling debris, he said.
Construction on Trump Plaza began in 1982 and it opened two years later. It was shuttered in 2014, and has stood empty since. Icahn Enterprises, owned by billionaire Carl Icahn, took control of the property in 2016.
Wow, really built to last, huh? I wonder what moron oversaw the building of an edifice that started falling apart before it was even 40 years old?

I wonder what moron...
Hm. I wonder, too.
Oh wait...

There's his name in 20-foot-tall bright red letters, right on top!

Maybe we can get him to visit the place for a retrospective exhibition - you know, how it was when America used to be great. "Top floor, boss." Ignore the warning signs, they don't apply to you. Please be at the window so you can wave to the crowd outside at exactly 1 PM. And yes, of course, you can bring the family."

Any building will start to fall apart in that time if not maintained

But not every building gets to implode simultaneously with its builder.

I know it will never happen, but wouldn't it be great if they could schedule the implosion for either 1) the day Trump accepts the Repugnican nomination for president; 2) election day, so the building gets flattened in Atlantic City at the same Trump gets flattened at the polls; or 3) Inauguration Day, and as part of the ceremony Biden himself gets to press the demolition button after taking the oath of office?

Speaking of metaphors...
Darren, is this you?
- ETA: yes, the "TRUMP" sign on the tailgate was photoshopped; yes, I could've posted the (presumably original) image with nothing but the "TOYOTA" brand there, but I thought this was funnier. In fact, when I went looking for a differently-sized copy of the image (I first saw the "TRUMP" version) I found roughly half of the dozens of images were photoshopped with an "OBAMA" sign, roughly half with a "TRUMP" sign and a tiny handful were the original non-political version.

I vote for #3. What a photo op.
