"... Fox News will not be moving into Canada after all! The reason: Canada regulators announced last week they would reject efforts by Canada's right wing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to repeal a law that forbids lying on broadcast news.
Canada's Radio Act requires that "a licenser may not broadcast....any false or misleading news." The provision has kept Fox News and right wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the "Fairness Doctrine" in 1987. Political dialogue in Canada is marked by civility, modesty, honesty, collegiality, and idealism that have pretty much disappeared on the U.S. airwaves. When Stephen Harper moved to abolish anti-lying provision of the Radio Act, Canadians rose up to oppose him fearing that their tradition of honest non partisan news would be replaced by the toxic, overtly partisan, biased and dishonest news coverage familiar to American citizens who listen to Fox News and talk radio. Harper's proposal was timed to facilitate the launch of a new right wing network, "Sun TV News" which Canadians call "Fox News North." ... "
And wow, Right-wing nutcases are the same all over.
"...
Harper, often referred to as "George W. Bush's Mini Me," is known for having mounted a Bush like war on government scientists, data collectors, transparency, and enlightenment in general. He is a wizard of all the familiar tools of demagoguery; false patriotism, bigotry, fear, selfishness and belligerent religiosity.
Harper's attempts to make lying legal on Canadian television is a stark admission that right wing political ideology can only dominate national debate through dishonest propaganda.... "

Um, Fox News already does broadcast in Canada, in its own name.
Sun TV has been dubbed "Fox News North" by critics because, from what has been seen of the lineup, its political slant is going to resemble Fox News, but there is no official connection between the two networks.
I do, however, agree that, on the whole, Canadian TV journalism does not attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator quite as much as its American counterparts.

What you people need is some better weather, then you'd really have something going up there. I would love to live in Montreal --but only for 5 or 6 months a year.

If I had my druthers, I'd live in here North California eight months of the year (March through October) and spend the other four inflicting myself and my wife on Gob, Hen, and Hatch.

Where you stand depends on where you sit, I suppose.
Any rational observer would be more critical of, for example, NPR, which pretends to be objective but slants all reportage, as compared with Fox News, which has an admitted conservative/libertarian viewpoint.
The ridiculous, transparent bias of the American MSM has been documented time and time again, but the self-appointed "intelligencia" only gets heartburn when they hear the slanted coverage from the right, most of which is on programming that is overtly and openly Conservative.
How can one fail to notice that expressions such as "left wing extremist" are essentially non-existent in the MSM. To them, there are are no left-wing extremists because they are personally so far out to the left that the only ones left of them are in Cuba.
More specifically, look at recent coverage of the budget crisis. Barry proposes a budget that cuts basically nothing; the R's propose cutting a percent or two out of the margins, and the MSM speaks of "drastic" cuts, and seeks out the few unfortunates who will not not be getting help with their school tuition.
Totally irresponsible, but not a problem, right?
As Mr. Clemens observed, there are lies, damned lies, and everything that comes out of Liberals' mouths.
Or something like that.

One to two percent is still a huge amount of money when talking about the government budget.
And the Republicans lose points for targeting social problems while ignoring their pet projects. Like a 3 billion dollar jet engine that the military doesn't need or want in the first place.

I would love to live in Montreal --
Montreal is a lovely city, but it reminds me of that famous line supposedly spoken by a soldier during the Vietnam War describing Vietnam:
"It's a beautiful place, except for the people".....
A more surly, cold, rude buncha frog wannabes you couldn't hope to meet....

This is fun:
The Fux narrative is that Wisconsin is being flooded with "violent" union protestors. Watch the clip and you see those guys shouting and shoving. They might even look violent, maybe! But then, check out the background -- since when are the streets of Madison, WI lined with palm trees??!?!?!?!?
The other day one of their reporters was doing an on-scene report (while the crowd around him chanted "Fox News lies!") and as the camera cut away he said "That guy just hit me." And he repeated it. Although film of the incident taken by others at the scene clearly shows nobody hit him.
More than two weeks of protests and not a single arrest; they're so violent, even the police won't touch them, obvs!
Lying sacks of shit.

They're recycling the "outside agitators" B-S that the White Citizen's Councils used during the civil rights movement. Well why come up with a brand new lie when your audience is so gullible.
