For starters, everyone else has closed their borders to Americans for now.

And you just have to keep your distance from them; hopefully, they'll infect each other. They stick out enough.

And, as far as I can tell, every country has some small minority of people who are anti-maskers, so where you gonna go? Where I live, this is a non-issue in most neighborhoods.

I've seen some, but not that many. The worst I saw was on the plane when we were traveling to Puerrto rico for my mother in law's funeral. The guy presumably had a mask on (or he wouldn't have gotten through security), but he apparently took it off when he entered and refused to put a mask on, yelling he couldn't breathe. It took 6 cops to get him off, and he delayed us more than an hour (a big thing at the end of May because nearly all flights were connections with minimal time between them; we barely made ours, others were not as lucky as I saw from the reactions in the terminal--delays could push you off to the next day or later). He was pretty lucky to have 6 cops around him as I think some in the crowd would have gladly beaten him to a pulp.

For the most part, I think most people are complying with wearing masks around here.

To answer Gob's question: I am seeing far more reluctance in UK to mask wearing than I see everyday around here. Yes I know most of my neighbo(u)rs have guns in the house but they wear masks when going to the supermarket to get food. And yes we have far more than our fair share of nutters here but I really think that the video is non-representative.

I don't go many places these days, but where I do go (grocery store, take-out restaurants, my office building) everyone is masked, without exception. I do occasionally see walkers and runners in my neighborhood who are not masked, as well as neighbors who are in their own yards. But there is plenty of space here to avoid getting anywhere near them.

If I am not mistaken, the CDC has an exemtion from mask wearing for people who are exercising but still say distancing should be observed.

Who the fuck are you to judge? :loon
London(CNN) Walk into any busy store in England or board a train on London's cramped underground system and you will see dozens of people unmasked. And you can forget about face coverings at recently reopened pubs... that's about as likely as a free pint of beer.

This despite the UK being one of the world's worst-hit countries by coronavirus -- it stands third behind Brazil and the United States -- with almost 45,000 fatalities.

And apart from catastrophic death tolls, the three countries at the top of the pandemic chart are those in which people resist wearing masks.
Britain is the worst-hit country outside of the US and Brazil. But it STILL won't wear masks

Were there any SANE Floridians who were given time to speak, or did they only show us the nut jobs?
Here is a list of chain stores which are about to REQUIRE masks to enter. This is a nationwide thing.

https://www.aarp.org/health/healthy-liv ... virus.html

If we had nationwide LAWS, we could lick this mess in a month or two. Somehow I don't think that is likely.
Menards made a mask mandatory several weeks ago, and removed the order (at least locally) after a couple of days when they lost business. They GAVE me one when I left mine in my car. I do wear one. I hope they all make it stick this time. All businesses need to stick together to make it work. I have masks available for customers, but have only had to give one away.

There are local, county, and state ordinances here requiring masks, but they have no teeth, fines or anything, and are very often ignored.
I was in a local Kroger subsidiary on Tuesday. The help is supposed to have masks. One young man has his on his chin. My checker, whom I've known for years outside of the store, had hers below her nose. Wow, if you're gonna wear one, wear it right,

My local grocery store has enforced the Governor’s mask mandate from the start, and also limits the number of people in the store at one time. I only go about twice per month so I’m sure it’s only coincidental, but the same store employee has been manning the door every time. He’s very friendly and polite - and he’s as big as any bouncer I’ve ever seen. Not sure if he was assigned the task for that reason, but I imagine it deters some who might otherwise fuss.

I spend too much time reading comments on Facebook so I realize I’m still surrounded by idiots - but in my limited travels out and about here in Massachusetts, the vast majority of people are complying with the governor’s statewide mask mandate and I’m grateful that my municipality also passed an ordinance with fines attached so people seem incentivized to follow the rules. Most businesses have a sign on the door ‘no mask, no entry’ and I’ve asked at the places I frequent and they’ve said no significant issues with compliance.

I’ve read online comments to Facebook pages I follow that many places in the country have a high rate of mask refusal, whether a mandate is in place or not. I lament the dearth of trust in science/medicine and the dearth of concern for one’s neighbors that leads to so much selfishness.

Glad to be a Masshole; our positivity rate is currently 1.1%.

MGM--The problem with national laws is enforcement, some states might enforce it, others won't. It''s not like the FBI will be going after people without masks.

To answer Gob's question: we're all waiting for November 3rd, just in case we have to vote in person rather than by mail.

(That, and what Scooter said.)

What Econo said. Plus, we don’t cut and run. I’m not giving up that easily. Never have, never will.

As for voting - bless the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The legislature passed early vote and early vote by mail earlier this month, and we just got the first mailed application today. There will be two more, I believe. Dropping mine at town hall later this weekend.

In NJ, we got a vote-by-mail option early in May that allowed us to select mail-in ballots for all future elections (including the primaries two weeks ago). I will miss the traditional pilgrimage to my local polling place, but this system is super convenient. (It includes several layers of fraud prevention plus you get a receipt back from the elections board telling you that your ballot has been received .)

Our Massachusetts application also provides that option (all elections), which I’ve selected on the form I received this week.

I don’t think they’ll be sending out multiple reminders, though I could be wrong. The application was sent with return postage paid, which I was very pleased to see. I’ll be mailing mine so as to reduce the risk of exposures to me and the clerk staff by visiting there in person.(Covid19 positivity rate in my community is a great deal higher than in Guin’s.) I’ll call in a couple of weeks to confirm it was received and processed.

Most likely for the same reason they're catching people from South America, Africa, the Middle East and China entering the country illegally.

Never fails...no matter how they bitch and whine and piss and moan and scream and yell and stomp their feet about leaving...they never do.

I have a greater chance of dying because I decided to ride my Sportster than from COVID19.
