Mail in voting will be an even greater mess.

I want off the planet.

Yes when I think of the Federalist Society pukes and other GOP bottom feeders who sullied those ballot recounts, I dread the ugliness that will unfurl this November.

It needs to be an unquestionable landslide - all the young folks need to get out and vote in person. Good, necessary trouble can commence in the streets afterward.

I'm not worried about mail-in voting even though there are many stupid conspiracy believers that support Trump and will not accept his loss. Trump may not go quietly but he will go.

In California we can mail or drop off our ballots beginning October 5th. Every state should have that option.

As they used to say in Chicago:

"Vote Early, Vote Often".

Washington (CNN) — President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump requested mail-in ballots for Florida's primary election on Tuesday, according to Palm Beach County records, despite the President's frequent attacks on voting by mail.
The records from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections website show the ballots were mailed Wednesday to Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club, which he made his permanent residence last year.
Despite Trump's rhetoric about voting by mail, the President has recently claimed that Florida's voting system is secure, tweeting earlier this month: "Whether you call it Vote by Mail or Absentee Voting, in Florida the election system is Safe and Secure, Tried and True. Florida's Voting system has been cleaned up (we defeated Democrats attempts at change), so in Florida I encourage all to request a Ballot & Vote by Mail!"
White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere told CNN that "the President supports absentee voting, not universal mail-in voting, which contain several safeguards that prevent fraud and abuse."
Election experts have told CNN there is no real difference between absentee voting and no-excuse mail voting and the two are "essentially the same thing."
I find it highly interesting that Trump does not want the rest of the US to vote by mail, but it's OK when he and the First Bimbo do it.
I also wonder just how he intends to return his 'absentee' ballot, if it isn't by mail.  Maybe he'll have one of his Marine guards hand-deliver it for him?

When you consider how much Drumpf has done to destabilize the US Mail, mail in balloting may well be problematic. Just the fact that he pushed to have his good buddy, and big contributor, Louis deJoy appointed as postmaster general is very unsettling. Mr deJoy supposedly has considerable stock holdings in both FedEx and UPS. Isn't that alone a BIG conflict of interest? Three of the 671 letter sorting machines he's has removed are in my area.

If I were deJoy, I couldn't quit fast enough. I think he may be even more hated than Drumpf himself right now.

I've already applied for my ballot, and will mail it in as soon as it arrives. I don't think it will be a problem. I'm not likely to want to change my vote unless Joe Biden shoots someone in the middle of 5th Avenue. Not even then if it's Drumpf. My ballot will be there in plenty of time.

It’s so easy for older people to put things down and lose track of them for weeks - I hope all mail-in folks will sit and do the ballot the day it comes and then mail it right back out.

That's not why I'll mail it back early, but it's a good excuse.

Umm, this is the reason the non-old people in my house rarely vote in minor elections. They put their ballot somewhere, forget about it, then the election slips by and they haven't voted (I put my ballot with the few paper invoices I still get, and usually fill it out within a day). Of course, for national elections, there is usually enough media/social media attention that they will go find the ballot and vote. Point being, it's not an old people issue.

I don't the system itself is inherently fucked, but there is sure enough opportunity for a slimy weasel like Trump to fuck with it and work it to his best advantage.

And just as a side observation ... who is the person in charge of handling the Royal Mail — the British version of the Postmaster General, if you will?  What qualifications does this person have, and how did he or she rise to their position?  An appointment of the Queen, or of Parliament, or what?

Postmaster General until 1969 was a Cabinet level post. Thereafter the PO in Britain has come under various cabinet departments although not itself represented at that level. The last Postmaster General was John Stonehouse, a Labour MP who was later revealed to have been an agent for Czechoslovakia and who faked his own death by leaving his clothes on a Miami beach (1974) and swimming back to another pile of clothes further along. He was later recaptured in Australia where he was living with his girlfriend.

The Royal Mail is now a private company.

Oregon has had mail in voting since we lived there; almost twenty years. Nothing to it unless GOP fuckamigillicans screw it up.

Here in NJ we have now switched to a "predominantly" vote-by-mail system. As I understand it, you can still go to a polling place to vote, but your vote won't be counted until after the elections board establishes you haven't voted by mail.

As much as I love the ritual and tradition of going to the polling place (always a family trip to emphasize civic duty for the youngs), I'm okay with the conversion.

I assume that if it was found that someone had voted by mail then one of the ballots (most likely the mail-in ballot, since the day-of-election ballot would supersede the mail-in ballot in much the same way that the most-recently documented copy of a person's will would override an earlier draft/copy) would be invalidated/destroyed; but doesn't that mean that there would have to be some way to determine just WHICH mail-in ballot that was?  Wouldn't that be a contravention of the "secret ballot" principle?
