not that there's anything wrong with that... This was, after all, the Boomer generation's "Day of Infamy".
But what we REALLY should remember is 9/12 —
Think about it.

“Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11.”

More people are killed by covid-19 every week than were killed on 9/11/01. Not that 9/11 wasn't horrific, but so was the OKC bombing and so is the annual toll of gun violence. Why is 9/11 somehow sacred? Why is it promoted? What is it that we are supposed to "never forget"?
The tragedy of 9/11 is that we haven't actually learned a goddam thing.

This.

I think it's creepy, too; it's part of the victimhood mythos that promotes xenophobia and militarism.

I will never forget the horrible feeling that between 10am and 230pm I did know if my son was alive or dead. I knew he was to be at a meeting in the Pentagon that day. I knew the meeting rooms for the Navy were mostly on the outer ring. I knew the plane hit on the Navy side of the building. I knew my son carried two cell phones, with different numbers and different carrier contracts. I called each constantly. Finally I got through and he told me his meeting space was pre-empted by somebody more important (who was now dead) and his meeting was moved to a hotel in Crystal City.
I learned of the Attack from a fellow worker who had a radio in his lab and kept me informed. At lunch break I went out and bought a yellow Gadsden flag (it was much later this flag was seized by the Tea-Party movement). I have never, to this day, watched the tv pictures of the attacks.

Along with remembering those who were killed on 9/11, we're reminded to never forget that we aren't as safe from foreign enemies as we once thought and there are many out there who would do more than knock down the Twin Towers if we, as a country, let our guard down.

My wife's hometown has one of those. I've seen few things as tasteless. And I've seen things like German Porn and wesws' posts.

Do you mean like using disinformation tactics and other psy-ops to cultivate divisions, stoke conspiracy theories, erode faith in the integrity of voting and undermine American democracy?

No. I meant exactly what I wrote. If you're referring to our Blob in Chief, he may use disinformation tactics etc, but he doesn't want us to remember anything that has actually happened. He wants us to believe in his fantasy.

I’m not referring to Trump, I’m referring to the calculated efforts of Russia to foment a breakdown of American democracy and American geopolitical strength by a concerted campaign of disinformation and meddling in our elections as detailed by 16 or 17 American intelligence entities.
I thought I was being rhetorical but now I’m a bit baffled you didn’t grasp my point.

Pardon me. I've been breathing smokey California air for a few days. It continues to be "Very Unhealthy"...

Or the bell of a lost ship in a memorial to the crew. Offhand, the bells of Hood, Arizona, and Royal Oak were raised and are part of memorials.

There is a major difference between using wreckage for “A” memorial and distributing (at a fair price I would imagine) a bunch of wreckage for hundreds if not thousands of memorials especially if said memorials have zero significance to the areas they are displayed.

Gob got it exactly right; latter day holy relics for the cult of 9/11.

Well not quite exactly. I think at least some of the new ones are actually authentic.
