Is there ANYTHING this dumbfuck won't say?

Post by Bicycle Bill »

Taken verbatim from the transcript of remarks made by D. J. "Dishonest John" Trump at a rally in Green Bay, Wi on Friday:
"... And send your state into a catastrophic… Do you want to use the word recession or depression?  Because the word is depression.  Biden has vowed to eliminate the entire US oil industry, no fracking, no energy and gas prices going five, six, $7 for a gallon.  How do you like $2 gasoline, good?  There’ll be no heating in the winter, no air conditioning in the summer and no electricity whenever the hell you want it.  Right now, you have it made.  You’re so lucky.  You are so lucky I’m your president.  And your team is doing a good job, right?  They’re doing a good job, right?  They are doing a good job. (ed note: I assume he's talking about the Green Bay Packers and their 5 - 1 record there)  And while I’m president, America will proudly remain energy independent.  How does that sound?  First time, you’re energy independent."
Trump must have a different definition of 'independence' than I do, because during the first eight months of 2020, the US has been importing between 5.5 and 6.5 million barrels of oil PER DAY! (source: US Energy Information Administration)

Doesn't ANYBODY fact-check this fucker any more????

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Yes, I did.  I do stand (somewhat) chastised.
But now, if you can, please tell me why we are exporting oil on one hand and importing it with the other?

And of course, even that still doesn't address the almost-comical assertion that there would be "no heating in the winter, no air conditioning in the summer and no electricity whenever the hell you want it."  Next thing he's going to claim is that there will be no refrigeration and freezing of foods, and we'll have to go back to the days of harvesting ice in the winter for use in the summer to keep milk from spoiling.

This guy's so full of shit that when he dies, they could give him an enema and then bury him in a matchbox.

For the same reason much of the oil from Alaska went to Japan. It's based on transportation costs and refinery design which limits what oils refineries can process.

I used to work for DuPont corp, who bought Conoco Oil company just to have a reliable source of raw materials. Oil is too valuable to burn.

But politicians have subsidized the oil extraction industries because that is where the politicians' largest 'contributions' come from. Damn few politicians have a decision horizon beyond the next election. Look up the record for Michigan Senator Phil Hart. The US Senate office bldg is named after him. He had a wonderful bipartisan record of doing, promising, voting for the right thing during his last term. That was after he learned he had untreatable cancer and his perspective changed. He also had the proud record of having the only spouse arrested for praying in the lobby of the Pentagon.

Discuss among your selves the utility of eating your seed corn.

Once again Trump is taking credit for the efforts of others. The best graph I could find on Wikipedia is this one which goes only to 2013. But it tells the story.

Yes US became 100% self sufficient (exports > imports) under Trump in 2019. The graph shows a steady rise from 1984 to about 2006. For those with addled memory cells, we had a D president for 8 of those years and a R president for 14. Then there was a steady decrease from 2008 to 2019 (off the end of the graph I have). 11 years; 8 of Obama and three of Trump. So even if we give credit to Trump for crossing the finishing line he was standing on the shoulders of a giant.

Edited to correct a couple of typos.

Why was the Obama administration lackadaisical on permits for LNG export facilities? Someone bottlenecked the process along with pipelines too. Drill baby, drill was mocked IIRC.
