And the most telling thing is, that when it comes their turn to sign up for some of that 'socialism' — like Medicare, the monthly Social Security check, unemployment benefits, disaster aid through FEMA or other agencies, or even last years' government stimulus checks — those same people who rant AGAINST 'socialism' are usually found up toward the front end of the line.

And if you ask them "why", they will tell you it is because they're so highly taxed they can't put anything aside to protect themselves. And these are the people who want to privatize social security; imagine what they'd have at retirement if the savings weren't forced.

As a Socialist, I am proud to call Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, unemployment insurance and "stimulus checks" socialist programs. These are just a few of the benefits a socialist government could offer. Universal healthcare, free higher education, public infrastructure improvement and genuine poverty reduction are all attainable. It only requires the political will to make government work directly for the vast majority of people rather than for the rich and large corporations.
