Flop

Post by Gob »

Any passing American might have been forgiven for thinking they had stumbled on one of the great human rights struggles of our time.

The speakers managed to mention Martin Luther King, Gandhi and the Nazi persecution of Jewish people. They told of prisoners held in conditions with echoes of the Soviet gulags.

Then there was the sheer injustice of the roundups. Innocent people spirited away by secret police for daring to criticise the government.

Except this was a protest to demand the release of hundreds of people arrested for their part in the storming of the US Capitol on 6 January, in an attempt to stop Congress certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election.

As the Republican party and Donald Trump’s more ardent supporters work to rewrite the narrative of the attempted coup, supporters of those arrested over it sought to turn it from a political to a human rights issue with the “Justice for J6” rally near the Capitol on Saturday.

As a protest, it was a flop.

Turnout was at best half of the 700 predicted by organisers, which in itself fell well short of the many thousands who stormed Congress in January. The event organiser, Matt Braynard, a former Trump campaign operative, blamed the poor attendance on government intimidation and press scaremongering.

“For those who turned out, I congratulate you on your courage,” he said.

That set a broad tone for a rally which sought to portray those arrested as brave Americans standing up for their democratic right to protest. No mention was made of the part played by Trump on 6 January when he urged supporters to “fight like hell” to defend his claim to have won the election.

Wait a sec, isn't the narrative supposed to have been that those on January 6 who engaged in violence were actually Antifa and BLM disguising themselves as Trump supporters?

So remind me why this crowd was demanding that they be freed?

There is a clip on CNN currently that shows an interaction between a reporter and a J6 rally attendee; the attendee declares that nobody did anything wrong because they merely entered a public building (never mind it was closed to the public due to covid19 protocols), and even when the reporter shows him video of the Capitol police officer being crushed in a door by the crowd that was attempting to forcibly enter the building, the kid says that’s not an assault and blames it on the officer for not getting out of the way.

These people are part of a hive mind. Until/unless we all get on board with understanding that this is now a massive cult of personality, the largest humankind has ever seen, we won’t be able to formulate effective strategies to protect our democracy and recover from this sickness. These are not rational people engaging in the electoral process. They are BRAINWASHED. Period.

I highly recommend Steve Hassan’s The Cult of Trump; or if a whole book isn’t up your alley, he’s done a podcast with The Lincoln Project that is very good and which you can find here

Hassan was indoctrinated into a cult as a college student and saved from the cult by a serious auto accident that left him hospitalized and gave his parents the chance to expose him to deprogramming that finally got him back to himself. He then founded a support group for ex-Moonies and went on to become one of the world’s foremost experts on cults. He points out that we are in the most dangerous time in human history for cult activity, because of the internet and social media.
