The fact that anyone would cast a vote for an ass like her for any position, makes me seriously concerned for democracy in the US. She makes Dan Quayle look like Einstein.

The congressional district? Not that I know. And if there are a lot of this sort of voters, I consider myself lucky in avoiding them thus far.

But the problem in, IMHO, that a democratic process must take all who choose to vote; the fact that some will squander their vote on a cretin does concern me because there is no way to exclude these people without defeating the concept of a democratic (small d) vote. That district might be full of these people, but I find it impossible to believe that any person at all would cast a vote because they think she would make a good, or even fair, representative. Maybe it's a protest vote, maybe it's just not giving a shit, maybe even an attempt to make the government not able to finction (if enough of these idiots are elected) but, regardless of the reason. it undermines our system seriously and makes me wonder if its time has come and gone.

I’m sure there are more than a few opportunists in there looking to get their chance when Trump finally “goes too far” in a bid to get around the regular electoral and selection processes. (I think Pence was originally like this) I wouldn’t call them clowns. I don’t know what I’d call them. But I wouldn’t call them clowns.

I don't know, even after his post-impeachment hearing diatribe, McConnell is still kissing Trump's ass, and few republicans, even Pence, will distance himself from the idiot or his positions.

Sounds like you're channeling Coastal South Carolina ancestors! They tried to leave the Union based partly upon that reasoning. There were other reasons but that was a biggie for them.

SC was among the first southern states to give white males the vote in 1810. But qualifications for State Representative candidates (10 slaves + 500 acres), senators (double that) and Governor (5 times that) - plus uniquely in the U.S., the State Congress chose the Governor and presidential electors - rendered such votes worthless in real terms of power. And that's the way they wanted it to stay. The lower orders could only install the "right" people who could make the "right" decisions - basically status quo ante.

Now, since there is no actual qualification to be one of the "right" people, loons elect loons ad lib. It is indeed a weakness of democracy that a Republic is supposed to curb. So much for that.

Personally, I think it's worse than that; it seems people don't particularly value their vote and are happy to throw it away. Sure, there may be some people who think Green is a good choice for congress, but I doubt it's a majority of people in the district. The rest are content to throw their vote away--I'm not sure why (perhaps because it pisses other people off?). And the worst thing is that I cannot think of a viable way to address this--the early US idea to have the elites select the best candidates (hell, the 17th amendment requiring direct election of senators rather than appointment by the state legislature) didn't come around until 1912) is fraught with just as many problems.

For example, I know one town in NJ (Glen Ridge, infamous for another reason) had a policy of using a civic conference committee to choose the "best" candidate for local elections, and the local dems and repubs had an unwritten agreement to accept that candidate and not run a contested election; the defense was that the committee chose people who were active in town affairs and acquired the necessary skills by this service, but it didn't always work this way. The committee didn't always work this way, however, and viable independent candidates began to run, eventually ending this procedure in the early 2000s.

By nature, I am neither petty nor nasty, but that is not to say I can't be; I prefer not to be. However, I am adaptable; I can be whatever I think the situation requires. I am consistent and not wishy-washy once I settle on something; that is it; I stick to it. You might remember this phrase from Conn Iggulden, " My word is iron." I know it is from friction, but they're still good words to live by, don't you think?

Settle on not being a foul-mouthed ass. Your word is nothing.
