Resistance Good
Hyperbole Bad
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Here's a link to the part of the Tennessee Code that Senate Bill 3 is amending: TCA Title 7, Chapter 51, Part 14.

Now, here's Scooter's take on it:

From the Bill Summary:
This amendment defines "adult cabaret entertainment" as adult-oriented performances that are harmful to minors, as such term is defined under present law; feature go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators, or similar entertainers; and include a single performance or multiple performances by an entertainer.
If anything, it appears to me that while this is obviously targeting drag shows and female impersonators, this provision in the law sounds like it could also be used to go after places like Hooters or Tilted Kilt — although the waitresses I've seen in those establishments are still covering a hellvalot more than the swimsuits shown in Sports Illustrated's annual paean to soft-core porn, 'gentleman's clubs', or any other venue or performance that gets their dander up that could be classed as "adult oriented"... including a lot of concerts and performances by current pop artists and not a few big-budget Hollywood films.

As for whether or not persons walking down the street, minding their own business, dressed in clothing that does not conform to their assigned-at-birth sex/gender (forgive me; I still can't understand the difference) could also run afoul of this remains to be seen.  In this regard, I personally think Scooter is hitting the panic button prematurely...   but stranger things have happened.

Nice job ... managed to troll both the drag queen and the 2nd amendment issue with a single meme.

Come on now, I grew up watching Flip Wilson dress up as Geraldine Jones every week. It was HILARIOUS! My very conservative parents tuned in weekly and let me watch. I grew up to have a soft spot in my heart for drag queens and could regularly be found at the local drag shows presented at Bullwinkle's in Bloomington Indiana back in the '80's. I swear we were more open minded then.

Flip Wilson was funny. Wasn't Geraldine's boyfriend named "Killer"? Yeah, that was funny.

When I was a kid my parents told me about going to Finocchio's in San Francisco with some friends of theirs. My mother said it was really funny when men dressed as women and did comedy acts and sang. So, one night when I was old enough to go to bars I suggested to a couple of my friends that we check it out.

Maybe they just had a bad night but I remember it wasn't funny. It just seemed weird. We stayed for less than half an hour waiting for something to laugh at and then got out of there. That was my first and last experience at a show like that.

I think women enjoy drag queens a lot more than men.

Maybe you hadn't drunk enough.  Just like straight guys watching bored strippers, women watching male dancers, or somebody trying to pick up somebody else at a bar — the more alcohol consumed, the better they look.  Or in the case of drag queens or improv comics, the funnier they seem.

If you're drunk enough, you'll even laugh at a bus crash — or believe that Trump and the GQP's right-wing bullshit makes sense.

I heard on the radio this weekend an interview with a state legislator from the great state of Nebraska, who has been engaged in an old-fashioned talking filibuster to prevent a vote on a bill to outlaw surgerical, chemical, talking, therapy for minors, or anything else not yet imagined, that will ease the difficulty of children who do not wish to live with the sex/gender listed on their birth certificate and reduce the power of parents to determine what is best for their child. When she ends this effort she is prepared to do the same with proposed anti-abortion bills.

The question was asked that why is this issue of such importance to the people of Nebraska? Her answer: I T A I N ' T !

This whole thing is a tactic organized nationally, to distract from real issues of potential war with Russia or China, economic impact of climate changed global warming, racial hatred, the international treaty obligations regarding refugees, and similar society threatening problems that require broad changes.

Since the party has no plan, let alone capacity, for actually governing, the GOP "strategy" through the 2024 elections (at least) is All Culture War All The Time, including ginning up as much idiotic moral panic as possible to keep its MAGA base "enraged and engaged." And as repeatedly demonstrated, panic and manufactured outrage sell big on right-wing media, especially when conjuring imaginary boogeymen and targeting marginalized minorities: Migrant caravans! BLM! CRT! Antifa! Muslims! Jews! Communists! Woke! And now, gender "ideology" (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean)! The goal is convincing them they are constantly under existential threat from the "other," who must not be allowed! These are pathetic people who terrify themselves with their own delusions (obligingly amplified by Fox, Newsmax, OAN, Epoch Times, Alex Jones, et al.) and demand that everyone else take their stupidity Very Seriously.

And the sad thing is that it works. Look at some of the cretins this policy has gotten elected. I've said it before, but when people are so blithe as to let this crap affect their votes, I have serious concerns for any democracy worldwide.

Anyone in Tennessee who is trans or non-binary will now be an unperson:
Tennessee Senate passes chilling bill that redefines sex and legally erases trans people

In the latest attack on LGBTQ+ rights in Tennessee, the state’s Republican-controlled Senate passed the SB 1440 bill on Monday (13 March) with a 27-6 vote.

The insidious bill attempts to discriminate against LGBTQ+ Tennesseans by defining “sex” as a person’s “immutable biological sex as determined by anatomy and genetics existing at the time of birth and evidence of a person’s biological sex” throughout state code.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) warned that SB 1440 could have a chilling impact on Tennessee’s LGBTQ+ community as it could prevent them from being covered by state nondiscrimination laws.

Sarah Warbelow, legal director for the HRC, condemned “extremist” lawmakers in the Tennessee Senate for continuing their “assault of LGBTQ+ Tennesseeans’ ability to live their lives openly and honestly”.

“This is their latest cruel attempt to stigmatise, marginalise and erase the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender Tennesseans,” Warbelow said.

“Let’s be clear: the goal of this bill is to exclude the LGBTQ+ community from nondiscrimination protections in the state of Tennessee and to perpetuate a false narrative of who transgender people are.”

SB 1440 will now make its way through the Tennessee House, which also has a Republican majority so it is likely the bill would pass. If it passes through the House, it will land on Republican governor Bill Lee’s desk to be signed into law.

The Tennessee governor signed a bill that will prevent trans youth from accessing life-saving, gender-affirming healthcare in the state on 2 March. The law takes effect on 1 July.

On the same day, Tennessee became the first state in the US to ban drag performances in public places where a minor might see them.

Memphis-based drag queen Bella DuBalle told PinkNews that the state’s drag community is “fearful” and “angry” after the ban was signed into law, but she said they won’t stop fighting as “revolution must be upheld”.

“It’s not a coincidence that all of these things are coming after the entire LGBTQ+ community en masse,” she says.

“It’s a concerted attack against all of us, and it’s going to take all of us together fighting back to overcome it.”

The new law came amid attacks by Republicans on the rights of trans and LGBTQ+ people across the US. According to the HRC, there have been more than 410 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in statehouses across the US in the first few months of 2023.

Approximately 180 of those bills would target the trans community – the highest number of anti-trans bills in a single year since the HRC began tracking.

The good news is that this is all the Rs have got to run on in 2024, and it's so far out of step with the average American's opinions that they're probably going to lose (again).
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.
