It’s a curiosity on how he is justifying himself these days.

I realized a while ago he operates less on principal and more on what he thinks he can successfully argue regardless of consequence.

I think it's even worse--no principle of even rationality of the argument governs (although he tries to cloak it in big words to make it appear something more than it is), it's just what will get him the publicity he craves.
