Primary Election Day

A couple of years ago I switched my party affiliation here in Massachusetts to the Republican Party, for obvious reasons.

I just got an email from the RNC urging me to get out and vote today.

I'm very much enthused to stop at my local polling place after work this evening and cast my vote for Nikki Haley for Republican candidate for the presidency.

Yes, she might manage 35%.

Me too in Ohio. I will vote against Trump for the 3rd time. 4th time will be November if need be.

Nothing really surprising in the returns, but it does appear Haley is now out. It will be interesting to see if that changes the number of people going to the polls in future primaries, or if she will endorse Trump. Time will tell.

But it raises an interesting question--if Trump does not/cannot run (we can all guess the reasons why this might occur), what republican could step up? And for the dems, the same question re Biden.

My nasty Trumpy town went resoundingly for the orange puke, but it's nice to know a bunch of Massachusetts towns went for Haley: https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/ ... aturestack

Unfortunately, here if I were to vote in the Republican primary I would find myself inundated with Republican propaganda. The way the Presidential Primary (which isn't until next Tuesday here) works is while the ballot is secret, you have to select which party you are declaring on the outer envelope with your signature. That puts the ballots into different tally pools. Ones with no declaration are simply not counted, same with ballots that have votes in the opposite party than what was declared.

The signature line is an "oath" that you will not change party affiliation for the duration of the candidate selection process (otherwords, one cannot vote in the Democratic presidential primary then go to the Republican convention, of vice versa, or participate in the Green party or Libertarian party or Socialist Workers party etc's selection process). That's basically a compromise from what the Parties wanted which was to restrict the Primary election SOLELY to registered party members, as was the case back when WA State used Caucuses. Its been a total Charlie Foxtrot since the State voted to do Primaries instead of Caucuses, because the Parties have never wholeheartedly supported or adopted the Primary system.

But since the declaration and signature are on the outer envelope, that means the Parties now are made aware of who voted in which parties Primary, along with addresses etc Last time I voted in the Republican primary I ended up getting Republican mail, NRA fliers, etc. The Democrats have never snail-mail spammed me like that.

In any case, I dropped my ballot off at the drop box yesterday even though its a week away. We don't have polling places, it's 100%* vote by mail. Ballots show up about 2 weeks before any election.

*Folks that don't get/lost their ballot can cast a provisional one at the County Auditor's office.

I am getting a fair amount of solicitations since changing my affiliation - including the opportunity to participate in a Republican Party voter survey recently accompanied by an opportunity to contribute funds.

The questions were of the type ‘do you agree that’ and followed by strongly agree to somewhat agree with an option to check other and leave a comment.

When they asked do you agree that the border crisis is one of the most important issues facing the country I checked other and left a comment about Bush and Reagan agreeing in 1980 that we needed legal immigrants to build our country and the system needs fixing with a path to citizenship.

When they asked do you agree that crime is at all time highs I checked other and commented that as a former prosecutor I know that while there has been a modest increase in crime since the pandemic, crime is still at record lows compared to when I was born a half century ago.

When they asked do you agree that woke Democrats are trying to destroy parental rights in schools I checked other and commented that as a current educator I know that parents still control their children’s educational choices even in liberal Massachusetts.

When it came to the option to contribute I declined but commented that I would happily contribute a substantial amount monthly if the Republican Party jettisoned the marmalade Mussolini (okay I didn’t say that) and returned to being a party of reason, the party of Reagan, McCain, Snowe, et al.

Yes I know that my survey got pissed on over at RNC headquarters.

Did anyone happen to see the news of the primary results in North Carolina? Voters there chose this guy as Republican candidate for governor.

Not included in that article is mention of his public comments - which I saw video of on Ari Melber’s show yesterday- that he wants America to abolish voting for women.

Good times ahead if we get things wrong in November.

Note he has already been the peoples's choice for Lt Governor. Here in Dele where the GOP shot itself in the foot in a a primary and rejected the incumbant Senator because he was not 'pure' enough and nominated a carpet-bagger witch. Yes Really. That's how democrat Coons got into the senate

snailgate.

I heard on the news yesterday that Biden is outpacing TFG in fundraising by a wide margin - I would have to say it must be true because I am getting 2-5 emails per day from the RNC inviting me to become a member of the GOP advisory council and to donate money to the party.

I think I am going to have to change my party affiliation after all, or relegate these morons to the spam folder.
