In response to vice-presidential candidate JD Vance's views on parenthood (click to go to a site to hear a seven-minute podcast, or to read a transcript):
●  There are people who don't have children because they don't want to be parents.  That's a valid personal decision.
●  There are people who would have children if society didn't make it so unnecessarily hard.   If we had parental leave, affordable daycare, affordable housing, or wages that would support a family on one income, they would start a family.
●  There are people who would have children if they had a reliable partner.
●  There are people who want children, but are infertile or otherwise medically compromised.
●  There are people who became parents when they didn't want to because they couldn't, or didn't want to, get an abortion.
●  There are people who are parents because it just happened and they abandoned their children.
●  There are people who are unhappy and/or terrible parents.
●  There are people who have children they are thrilled about, whether they were planned or it just happened.

To say that any of these people don't have a stake in the future of our country is shortsighted and cruel, not to mention just plain wrong.   It is in the best interests of all of us to have a healthy, educated, and ethical next generation to run society when it is their time, whether they are our children or someone else's.   If your vision of the future includes only what will benefit your kin, you have no business running a carpool, much less a nation.

Only those on the two ends of the spectrum are happy about it, and it behooves all of us to do what we can as a society to help all those people who aren't on the ends of the spectrum. If parenthood were truly a personal choice for all, the children we end up with would have a better world to inherit.

I might note that, with the exception of the line I stressed, there is nothing that I could add to this.

Campaign slogan! If you plan to stay on the couch this year, remember, JD Vance might try to fuck it.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

I saw that same cartoon BB and came here to post it. Perfect.

I'm ashamed to say I bought Vance's book. What I told my friend who borrowed it is that the first half, where he describes his tough upbringing in KY and OH is OK; while the second half where he draws conclusions about always standing on your own two feet and how inept the government is, is just foolish.

Remember, Vance, like Trump, always aspired to be part of the Eastern Elite. That's why Vance went to Yale Law School. All their complaints about the 'Eastern Elites" carries a strong whiff of sour grapes.

Just following up on JD Vance's idea that people without children shouldn't be leaders. Jesus, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, James, Philip. Oh! And Paul. Timothy. Silas, Barnabas. Who'd I miss?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

This story that Vance had sex with a sofa is of course overblown - it was a love seat and a simple misunderstanding that anybody could make.

Just wonderin' ...... did the people who owned the now-legendary couch hang on to it, like Monica did with the blue dress?   If they did, I'm sure they could get hyu-u-uge bucks from some brain-dead Trump supporter for it now.   "Hello, Elon... ?   Listen — have I got a deal for you!!"

If what I've read about Vance having sex with a couch is accurate, at least he used protection. Can you imagine what might have happened if that couch had gotten pregnant?

Or if he caught some kind of venereal disease?

I can't see how a woman who is childless by choice would see the label as an insult. I wish Vance's (and Trump's for that matter) mother felt that way.
