He’s born and raised in Houston, Texas, college graduate, and a seasoned journalist who works for NBC as senior Capitol Hill reporter and formerly for The Guardian.

She’s a mealy mouthed small town (they all are) Aroostook County, Maine gal, also college educated, longtime staffer for Bill Cohen then a Maine state bureaucrat before running for Senate and promising to serve only two terms a zillion years ago.

Also, he’s clearly quoting her, as you might understand the use of quotation marks being an English speaking person yourself?

My money is on Susan Collins improperly using the language; she probably didn’t want to say aborted for fear it would lose her a brain dead Maine voter or three.

The entire sentence: "I had two flights this Sunday and last Sunday averted at the last second" makes no sense. Is she trying to say, "I had two flights last Sunday and two flights this Sunday and each flight averted an accident at the last second"?

She appears to be saying that last Sunday was averted at the last second.

I believe she meant "diverted" - due to a lack of controllers to guide landing at the airports of destination. And that her two diverted flights were on successive Sundays.

More odd (to me) is she claims that one of these(?) planes "touched down and took back off". With wheels on the runway a go-around is possible but not very likely - that would seem to have nothing to do with a lack of ATC.

You'd think she'd write more clearly since English is her Maine language....

I think she’s flat out lying like she did in 1996 and has done for decades since.

Does anybody actually believe a passenger jet she was on did a touch and go? At Dulles? At Washington National? At Bangor or Portland International? I call BS until/unless evidence is presented beyond the word of Susan Collins, who has averted honesty at every opportunity for the last ~30 years.
