Does that mean the US can pull the troops out?WORLD NEWSMAY 1, 2011, 10:58 P.M. ET
Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is dead, and the U.S. has his body in its possession, a person familiar with the situation said Sunday.
President Barack Obama will make the announcement late Sunday at the White House.
The development capped a manhunt of more than a decade for the architect of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that left 3,000 people dead and dramatically altered U.S. foreign policy and the nation's sense of security.
If it's on the Beeb, I'll believe itAl-Qaeda founder and leader Osama Bin Laden is dead, US officials say.
The US is said to be in possession of Bin Laden's body. President Barack Obama is due to speak shortly.
The al-Qaeda leader was killed in a ground operation in a mansion outside Islamabad in an operation based on US intelligence, reports said.
Bin Laden is accused of being behind a number of atrocities, including the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September 2001.
He is top of the US most wanted list.
Crowds gathered outside the White House in Washington DC, chanting "USA, USA" after the news emerged.
Bin Laden approved the 9/11 attacks in which nearly 3,000 people died, saying later that the results had exceeded his expectations.
He has evaded the forces of the US and its allies for a decade, despite a $25m bounty on his head.
His death will be seen as a major blow to al-Qaeda but also raise fears of reprisal attacks, correspondents say.

There were conflicting early reports about the circumstances of bin Laden's death. CNN reported that he been killed at a "mansion near Islamabad" by a "US military operation". Other sources said he had been killed in Afghanistan.

I'm waiting for confirmation from The Weekly World News...I'm refusing to believe it until I read it in The Daily Mail!
Nah, that was where the 54 "number two" men in Al Qaeda were killed by George W. Bush.Gob wrote:Wasn't in Iraq then?
They are still saying now that it was just outside of Islamabad. How the fuck did he manage to stay hidden there, without some help (or looking the other way) from within the Pakistani gov't?Gob wrote:The whole "mansion" idea was part of the confusion of the early leaks.

Moderate Saudi spiritual leader Osama Bin Laden has been brutally killed by the intrusive U.S. military after their misguided decade-long hunt to avenge the 9/11 attacks. The revered leader of Al Qaeda was accidentally killed by a bomb along with some members of his family in a strike on a mansion outside Islamabad in Pakistan. A day of mourning is being urged by the Daily Mail.
