Hahahahahahahahaha, Newt Gingrich, genius of the Republican Party: "If you quote what I said, you're lying about what I said. Especially if what I said pisses off the wingnuts whose votes I need. So don't quote me, 'cause I didn't say what I said when you saw me saying it on the national tee-vee."

Orwell was a genius...
The Ministry of Truth (or Minitrue, in Newspeak) is one of the four ministries that govern Oceania in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. As with the other Ministries in the novel, the Ministry of Truth is a misnomer and in reality serves an opposing purpose to that which its name would imply, being responsible for the falsification of historical events; and yet is aptly named in a deeper sense, in that it creates/manufactures "truth" in the newspeak sense of the word.

Newt is the Joe Biden of the Right. Can thoughtfully and intelligently articulate his positions but has such a gravitational force driving his foot to his mouth that no one would dare put him in a position of power. (Which is why Biden is the perfect bullet shield for Obama)

At one point he and the wifey owed between 1/2 to 1/5 of their overall wealth in a bill to Tiffany's. Shades of the The Donald?

Please, let's at least elect someone who can manage their personal budget.

Personally, I'm quite happy to see Gingrich's campaign imploding so quickly....

One more side show tent folding up....

With Huckabee bowing out, at the moment there are only two serious contenders for the GOP nomination with any realistic chance of being able to exploit the vulnerable position Obama is likely to find himself in in 2012; Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty. If Mitch Daniels gets in, there will be three. At the end of the day, the odds are overwhelming that one of those three will be the nominee.

BTW I did a little digging, and I found the limo service that was hired to bring the "candidates" who participated in that recent "debate" to the forum....

I would point out to you jolly mirth makers, a little recent history:

At this point in the '92 election cycle George HW "The Hero Of Desert Storm" Bush was in a far stronger position than the one Obama enjoys now....

So strong in fact, that the top tier of potential Democratic contenders of the time, (Like Mario Cuomo and Sam Nunn) all took a pass....

The remaining candidates were a group of unknowns considered to be of such little stature that they were dubbed "the seven dwarfs"....

One of those dwarfs was Bill Clinton....

And don't forget that in the spring of 1980, they were doing high fives all over the West Wing at the prospect of taking on an aging former actor in the general election....

So if I were you two zany cut-ups, I'd save the Rowan and Martin routine for a later time... :P

Does *everything* have to be in the masculine form? I'm thinking we're possibly more like Rita Rudner and Sarah Silverman . . .

That raises an interesting digression point...

When I think about it, I can't think of a single all female comedy duo...

There have been some male/female teams of course, (Burns and Allen, Nichols and May, Stiller and Mera, Sonny and Cher)

And of course tons of male comedy teams...

But I can't think of any all women teams...

As a matter of fact, the whole concept of the "comedy team" seems to have pretty much died out as a comedy genre...I can't think of any young current comedy teams, (of either sex)

This could be a function of economics; there are so many struggling comedians out there, ("Everybody wants to be a comedian" has become almost a fact...:-) and the competition is so fierce, that it may just not make economic sense anymore to split a club appearance fee between two people....

That's too bad...

There were some great ones....
Sarah Silverman . . .
I thought she was great in the Monk episodes....

But you're more than welcome to her politics....
