Double Standard Anyone?

Anthony Weiner sent lascivious pictures over the internet. He did nothing illegal. He has been forced to resign from the House of Representatives. He is a Democrat.
David Vitter engaged in prostitution -- a crime. He is still a sitting Senator. He is a Republican.
The Democratic minority leader in the House, Nancy Pelosi, called for an ethics investigation of Weiner. The Republican minority leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, did not call for an ethics investigation of Vitter.
Hmmm ....

The piece about the entire Weiner thing that bothered me the most was the fact that it was reported -- through Salon, at least -- that Weiner was being "tracked" but some right-wing bloggers, looking for a gotcha moment. Apparently at least one "offended" woman release the picture for what appear to be political purposes, not necessary because she was concerned about harassment. In no way am I absolving him of responsibility for his behavior, but I'm pretty sure if I went out looking for right-winger politicos who tweeted or emailed weiner-esque information, I bet I could find it.
(Sorry for the vagueness of the above comment, I don't remember the name of the blogger, but I know its out there-- I've been really busy and haven't focussed on Weiner news as my top priority).

I read the "Drudge Report" daily, accepting it for what it is, a hard right blogging of "news" reports. It surprises me not one whit that Weiner's weener is all over our press. Do you have a left wing news source in the US? NPR seem reasonably balanced.

Am I hallucinating, or didn't we just have a fairly in depth exchange about this?
One that covered double standard issues, the way pictures, lurid writing and people coming forward play a role in the coverage and political pressure, etc.; a discussion that pointed out the cases of Tom Foley and Chris Lee?
Or was that some other board?

US Democratic lawmaker Anthony Weiner has resigned his seat in Congress following an internet sex scandal.
He said "the distraction that I have created" had made continuing "impossible". He said he apologised for the "personal mistakes" he had made.
Mr Weiner had been under pressure after lying about a series of online chats with women to whom he sent lewd photos.
The move comes days after US President Barack Obama said he would quit if he were in Mr Weiner's position.
Mr Weiner had been regarded as a rising star in the Democratic Party and a possible prospect for the mayorship of New York City.

Victory for the right wing press?

He was forced out because of 2 things, his lying and his extremely poor judgment of sending pictures of himself to people he knew notheing about. They could have been 15 year old girls or boys for all he knew. At least the other guy knew he was dealing with prositutes.
I read the "Drudge Report" daily, accepting it for what it is, a hard right blogging of "news" reports.
The Drudge report is just a collection of links to other web sites, I've never understood why it is considered right wing, they write nothing.

He was forced out because his party overwhelmingly pushed him out. Unlike the the Republicans mentioned above.

No, he was forced out by his party because he lied over and over again to his trusting leftest media. He even called them into his offices for a personal assural that he didn't do it, and they played right along. Once he was forced to tell the truth, because of the evidence, they turned against him, forcing the Dems to call for him to resign.
This went on for 3 weeks. 1 week when he denied it and the media played along, 1 week when the dems tried to play it down while the media kept after him, and the 1 week where the dems finally decided the media wasn't going to let it go and called for him to resign.

Just so I establish my weiner-loving bona fides:
CNN.com reports that Larry Flynt has offered Weiner a job at Hustler, with a 20% raise over his House salary, and will pay moving expenses to Beverly Hills. So this all was really just an extended and public job interview (Flynt offered a similar deal to Paladino).

Well, since I'd missed out on so much weiner news, and did not appear to be up to date on my weiner facts, I wanted to make sure to dispel any and all concerns!
