Netanyahu's Xmas card list gets shorter.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "liar" in talks with US President Barack Obama, who then complained of having to deal with him daily.
The private conversation, held during the G20 summit in the French city of Cannes last week, was overheard by a number of journalists after it was inadvertently transmitted over a system used for translation, media website Arret sur Images reported.
"I can't stand him anymore, he's a liar," Sarkozy said in French during the talks.
"You may be sick of him, but me, I have to deal with him every day," Obama replied in comments that were translated into French.
A number of journalists have confirmed hearing the remarks.

OTOH, the entire history of Israeli posturing since 1967 has been a constant lie. They have no intention of negotiating the existence of a parallel Palestinian "state" or of giving back any land on the West Bank.
The pathetic thing is, because of inordinate Jewish influence political in America, our presidents are forced to watch their duplicity, year after year, and pretend to believe that Israel wants anything other than the effective annihilation of Palestinian prospects for a viable state. It makes the U.S. look like stupid dupes.

strong supporter of Israel, and it's right to exist, in peace, within secure and defensible borders, (as I have been my entire adult life)
without embracing every single policy decision various Israeli governments have made, let alone being a fan of Bibi Netanyahu's...(which I manifestly
am not.)

Just before Christmas, the US President, Barack Obama, signed into law one of his country's biggest aid pledges of the year. It was bound not for Africa or any of the many struggling countries on the World Bank's list. It was a deal for $US2.77 billion ($3 billion) to go to Israel in 2010 and a total of $US30 billion over the next decade.

Gob, the USD2.7 billion in aid is number one, chicken feed in terms of government spending, and number two, goes largely to American contractors (for example, last year $2.75 billion of "aid to Israel" was committed to purchase 20 F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin). So there is significant U.S. self-interest involved. In addition, despite differences over governmental policies, Israel has been a significant strategic asset to the U.S., particulalry in military and security intelligence.
Everyone knows that the two-state solution is the only solution to the "Palestinian problem," but intransigence in reaching that result has not been limited to the Israelis, and more recently the infighting between Fattah and Hamas has presented a very serious obstacle. Could things be handled differently? Of course. Better? Maybe. But as Americans, it's not our country on which to impose our preferences. Israelis and Palestinians both have the same right as Americans to make stupid political choices in their governments.
I am no fan of the current Israeli government. And I agree with everything Jim has said so far in this thread.
