Lib, schooling should follow a continuum of transferring responsibility from the teacher to the student.
In kindergarten, the teacher is 80% responsible for the student's progress. In high school it's 50/50. In college, 75/25 with the Student responsible for most of it. By grad school, the teacher is just a navigator, showing the student which way to go in order to learn the material: 90% student, 10% professor.
This is, in my opinion, the proof of the unpreparedness of many incoming college freshmen. They are still at the 50/50 level, and have no business on a college campus. If you have to take "remedial" courses, you shouldn't be there.
