It's going to be interesting to see what official statements governments release around the world...

Typically in a situation like this, "condolences" are expressed to the the people of the country involved on their "loss"....

"Our Government wishes to express it's deep and sincere condolences to the people of the The Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea on the loss of the leader who was enslaving and starving them"

Now we have no idea who is running the country; in theory one of his sons who's in his late 20's is supposed to be his successor, but power could really be in the hands of any of a number of people, including an aunt, a couple of uncles, and the military leadership.

Whoever it is, it's difficult to imagine how they could be any worse....

Currently, the primary exports of North Korea are counterfeit money, nuclear weapons technology, and meth amphetamine....

"... North Korea's official KCNA news agency lauded Kim's youngest son, Kim Jong-un as "the outstanding leader of our party, army and people". ..."

Kim Jong-un was publicly announced as his successor a year ago when Jong-Il had a stroke.

In any case, it is an opportunity for change. The opportunity might be exercised by the army or it might be exercised by Jong-un depending on their respective characters and levels of intelligence. It would be wisdom for the US to discreetly provide to either or both of them a path forward which allows the country to liberalize economically and politically.
