MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Former Utah governor Jon Huntsman will drop out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination today, a campaign adviser confirmed Sunday night.

The news of the decision comes the same day Huntsman received the endorsement of The State, the newspaper in Columbia, S.C., and nearly a week after finishing third in the New Hampshire primary, where he had focused his campaign.

The campaign adviser spoke on condition of anonymity because Huntsman plans to make the official announcement.

Matt David, a spokesman for Huntsman, told TheNew York Times that Huntsman will endorse former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

[I wouldn't give Mitt the sweat off a pig.....but that's just me.]

Well that's a pity.

The remainder are all mentally unfit, morally corrupt or both.

Meh, no great loss to the Kavalkade of Komedy that is the GOP field.

In other election news, Colbert's super-PAC goes negative on Mitt the Ripper, America's Worst Serial Killer:

Funny Colbert bit.

I guess I'm less amused by the Komedy Kavalkade when I consider that one of the remaining might actually get elected.

Are you just very confident in a second term for Obama, Sue?

Not at all; as a lifelong student of politics, I would never underestimate the gullibility of the American electorate (more specifically, that portion of the electorate that swings the election). But if we're going to make a mockery of our democratic processes, the least we can do is laugh. As for Colbert, it's nice to see the mocking done by professionals, for a change.

You should all look up the story of Seamus Romney.

Missing your point . . . .

Brief overview of the Seamus incident

Excerpt:
It’s a question that has dogged him for years. Why did Mitt Romney once strap the family dog in its carrier to the roof of the car and then set off on a summer vacation to Canada?

The story of the family pet, Seamus, appeared in a 2007 Boston Globe piece.

“As the oldest son, Tagg Romney commandeered the way-back of the wagon, keeping his eyes fixed out the rear window, where he glimpsed the first sign of trouble. ‘Dad!’ he yelled. ‘Gross!’ A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who’d been riding on the roof in the wind for hours.

Seamus was not a corporation, so not "people," therefore undeserving of consideration from the Monster Mittster.

Also, hooray for Gail Collins.

Ah, gotcha.

I would have brought this up earlier, but forget that so few people outside of MA don't know the real Mittens. And yes, Gail definitely has a bone between her teeth on this one . . .

It has apparently spawned an entire movement:

I wonder if they had to register as a PAC(k).

Newt's attack ad is almost as funny as Colbert's (and it's just clips of Romney being his uncomfortable self):

The schaden freudes itself, again.

"A complete airtight kennel"?

What was it, the lead-lined shelter they would have used for the dog in the event of a nuclear attack?

I love that ad! True enough, debates between Obama & Gingrich would be interesting. Any other GOP putz won't hold a candle to Obama in that regard.

I can understand folks who let the dog ride in the truck bed on short trips, or have the dog in a kennel in the truck bed for short trips at higher speeds. But twelve hours at highway speeds strapped to the top of the car?!?! That's brutally insensitive. Leave the dog AT a kennel, or let him ride IN the car. It's not as though Mitt isn't rich enough for either a kennel bill or a big enough car.

He frightens me; there is something just weird about him. I'd rather have Santorum in the WH.

I would say Massachusetts survived, but that is simply because he only used us as a stepping stone to run for President, and he was hardly ever around. That being said, I think he's the kind of person who wants the office simply because he believes he is entitled to it, and has wanted it for a long time, without any real policy drive or deep understanding of what the office should/could be. Maybe he'd just hang out, throw parties, and travel. Mittens is no zealot -- his flip-flopping should make that clear -- and in that way scares me far less than the GOP candidates who have actual opinions on issues.

(1) [re: subject of the thread] Huntsman is out? So what? Any one of the remaining R's has better credentials than the Current Occupant - a fact which I have stated repeatedly on this Board, without a single rebuttal.

(2) I'm not really familiar with the dog incident that so delights Democrats about the Mitt-ster, but if it is cruel to leave a dog out in the wind, none of my dogs ever got the memo. They invariably put their heads out the window as far as they possibly could, and the faster the car was moving the better they liked it.

(3) Mitt's comment about corporations being "people" is quite valid, as anyone posting here is completely aware. Corporations are the sum of their stockholders, officers, employees, debtors, creditors, and customers. All of whom are (generally speaking) people. To say that "Corporations are evil" is both stupid and fatuous - which is why it is heard so often in Democrat circles.

And I always love how the leftests on here want to tell the Reps who their best candidate is.

In my view, the person they like the least is probably the best candidate.
