He does have the right to know who the hell he's talking to. They use ambush journalism style ask a loaded question and expect what exactly?

The 'students' were acting disingenuously and refused very many requests to identify themselves.

And they have to identify themselves to him because? He can ask all he wants, they hav no obligation to tell him anything. It's not a hearing where they have to answer his questions (nor does he have to answer their's for that matter).

It should probably be pointed out that the Congressman has issued a very profuse and abject apology...

It should also be pointed out that when you are an elected public official, you have to be able to deal with this sort of "ambush journalism" (Lord knows Michael Moore has engaged in it often enough) without physically assaulting anyone.

I gotta go with Jim and Big RR on this one. Sure, the "kids" were enaging in assholery, but as an elected official you are expected to deal with assholes -- who are just as much "the public" as anyone else -- in a courteous and, at a minimum, professional manner. The easy (and proper) response would have been, "If you'd like to interview me with respect to my position on the issues, I'm happy to oblige; please make an appointment with my scheduling secretary."

My only point is there are enough edits in the footage that it is reasonable that more than assholery (god I love that term) could have been involved.

Even without it his actions are understandable. Not wise politically, but understandable.

Well, even from the footage shown, you can see that the twerp with the blurry face was pretty much sticking his camera directly up the Congressperson's nose, trying to be as annoying as possible by gettin all up in his grill yo. So yeah, I can understand the urge to bat it away. But still ...

Why does a position as a politician automatically confer the ability to ignore some basic human reactions? For that matter why does it also bestow the ability to ignore moral and ethical rules that the rest of us are supposed to follow?
