I watch very little television, but last night I watched for an hour or so and the bombardment of political ads was just unbelievable. Most of them (or the most-repeated ones) were negatve ads paid for by Romney-supporting super-PACs. I know it's all about trying to suppress voter turnout, but I can't imagine it's going to make any difference at all in this media market (Philadelphia), which will vote overwhelmingly for Obama. It's not going to be anywhere near enough to flip PA, and DE and NJ are not even close to being in play. I guess the Koch brothers aren't very good businessmen after all.

Sue--yep, I've noticed a lot more romney ads lately, but what really bugs me is that both sides seem to run almost exclusively negative ads. American politics at its worst. Neither side changed my mind to "throw my vote away" and vote for a third party candidate. I really don't want to see either candidate win.

And interesting thing I saw on the Simpsons; I watched a collection of their Halloween special episodes (Treehouse of Horrors) and one set in '96 was lampooning the Dole/Clinton race; space aliens had replaced both candidates and when Homer exposed them they just said "you still have to vote for one of us, it's a two party system"; one person saiid he'd vote for a third party and they both laughed and said "Go ahead--throw your vote away". One of the aliens eventually won, and turned the US into a slave empire. Sixteen years later, still the same.

Well, I'll be throwing my vote away this year, too. I got my sample ballot and the Greens are fielding a full slate of candiates down to County Freeholder. I will probably vote the whole list.

Yep--not that I love the greens or even support a lot of their positions, but if enough of the presumptive dem voters do this, maybe it will make a difference in who the dems nominate in the future. The least objectionable candidate is not way to elect a president (or anyone else for that matter).

Well, SWP got the Harris/DeLuca tiicket on the NJ ballot, and SP-USA is running Greg Pason for Senate. But as long as I'm throwing my vote away, I'd like it to go to a progressive party that has the potential to draw significant votes and someday become a real player in American politics. I'd love to see a more robust and coordinated Red-Green effort.

I'm with you there Sue, I'd happily vote for him, very sensible fellow:

I have my overdose planned should Moredick win.

Interesting commercials here now. Trying to spackel over his unfortunate rape comment his ads feature a late 20's to mid 30's perfect blue eyed blond female, trying her best to appear unrehersed saying, "While I may not agree with Richard Murdock on everything....". I think she was laid off from modeling bras for JC Penneys.

The very nature of what super-PAC are and aren't allowed to say ensures that all their messages will be negative. And the fact that the amounts they are allowed to spend are unlimited ensures that that negativity will drown out everything else.

I don't own a TV anymore, and I'm glad I don't.

:arg Edited to change "vary" to "very". Whoops.

Does anyone see the danger that our country is in? I have faith in neither candidate. I worry about the future of the country. For example, just now much larger can the debt get before we crash?

Constitutionally we have to pay our debts, but we can’t be evicted at least as long as we keep our nukes.
