Hey Pete, next time you want a little on the side make it a blow job! No embarrassing repercussions down the line:

Sam Wilkinson: Republican Grifters Gotta Grift: Pete Domenici Edition

(I've gotta secret!)

Sources believed to be reliable report that Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) was a complete non-presence in his son Adam's life…

Sam Wilkinson:

Secret Children For Me, No Gay Marriage For Thee!: Pete Domenici used to be a Senator and a conservative one… staunchly oppose[d to] anything that might benefit gay citizens. The Defense of Marriage Act? He was for that. A 2004 Constitutional Amendment that would have defined marriage as being between a man and a woman? He was for that. A 2006 Constitutional Amendment that would have defined marriage as being between a man and a woman? He was for that too. He enjoyed a 0% rating from the Human Rights Campaign. He was a man who stood athwart history yelling “Stop!” as the saying goes, steadfastly advocating the morality that he grew up with, swearing that marriage as an institution was the sort of thing that must be defended against the mongrel horde.

Funny thing… he just could not find the time to tell anybody about the secret son fathered as a result of an extramarital affair… she was 24 (he was 46 at the time) and the daughter of another serving Senator, Nevada’s Paul Laxalt… did not bother to inform either his wife Nancy (a woman he’d only been married to since the 1950s) or their eight children about his new child; they found out only several months ago….

Domenici is… after all, a product of his generation, one in which men commonly had extramarital sex with their coworkers’ conservative daughters and then also fathered out-of-wedlock children with those conservative daughters and then also did not tell anybody about a secret out-of-wedlock child and then also continued to insist publicly that his moral vision should become law and then also continued to vote for laws that would force his moral vision onto people whether they were interested in it or not or and then… wait, what? That’s not what men of his generation did, is it? That’s not the culture he was raised in, was it?

Moral exemplar, no? Maybe he thought the DOMA was for marriage between a man and a woman and another woman who is 20 years younger?

A shame the gentleman broke his wedding vows and (perhaps) took advantage of the young lady - at any rate, left her holding the baby. Everyone on this board of course has never had any moral failure in their own lives, except me I suppose.

But what does his act of infidelity (and hiding it) have to do with believing that marriage should be between a man and a woman? Nothing whatsoever. What does it have to do with attempting to secure legislation to prevent the forcing of (im)moral visions into law whether people want it or not? Nothing.

Yet another shrill diatribe from those who love to force their beliefs into law - at least two hyprocrites are involved here and three if I'm in

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Careful there, from CNN's political ticker this morning:
(CNN) - Pete Domenici, the longtime GOP senator who represented New Mexico for more than thirty years, admitted Wednesday that an extramarital affair three decades ago produced a son, who was kept secret from the public since then.

In statements, the former senator and his son's mother explained the circumstances surrounding the affair and why they were going public with the information on Wednesday.

Oldr - I don't give a damn about who sleeps with whom, but I do care about people who claim the higher moral ground and authority, who are revealed to be as fallible as the rest of humanity. I don't understand that mentality at all, and I find it incredibly offensive.

Meade -- we all need grace. Some of us understand that better than others.

Agreed. i have found those who try to be better than thou, are not. Of course I am better than all (having the alcoholic mentality and all) so everyone is "less than" me.

Don't know where I am gong wiht this, but it seems we are more involved in peoples personal lives rather than what they should be doing for us.

If politicians don't want us involved in their personal lives then perhaps they should refrain from toying with the personal lives of others as a means of advancing their political careers. Perhaps they shouldn't deign to lecture others about how their relationships cheapen the institution of marriage if they already view their own marriages so cheaply that they break the vows they made before God and all. Or is Mr. Domenici going to propose adultery as a further ground to void a marriage, in addition to the spouses being of the same-sex?

Apparently, Brad DeLong checks facts better than mindless Republican apologists do.
No, apparently what DeShlong does is take stories being carried by legitimate news sources, and then misleadingly and dishonestly (no wonder you're so keen on the guy) attempts to give the false impression that he has done his own reporting by using a journalistic phrase like, "Sources believed to be reliable" rather than give proper attribution:

Date and time of the "delong typepad" story:

February 21, 2013 at 03:44 AM

http://delong.typepad.com/sdj/2013/02/s ... ition.html

Now The Post story:

February 20, 2013 at 11:40 am

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/pos ... r-decades/

The LA Times:

February 20, 2013, 12:15 p.m.

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la ... 9388.story

ABC:

Feb 20, 2013 6:23pm

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/20 ... expansion/

I wonder which real news organization DeLong stole the story from and didn't give attribution? (He says "sources" plural, so perhaps it was several of them...)
10 seconds with google.
Apparently 10 seconds on Google is what Braddy Boy spent obtaining his "Sources believed to be reliable"...

It's truly a shame rube, that you don't spend those 10 seconds on Google more often....

If you did you might avoid the embarrassment of saying things like, "The British have had a 4th rate navy since the American Revolution", "The Poles weren't victims of the Nazis" , "The Japanese intended to deliver a declaration of war before the bombing of Pearl harbor began", "There was no genocide before Christianity", etc, etc, etc,....

And in this case, if you had bothered to scrutinize what you Googled, you might (okay, probably not, but anything is possible) have noticed that your results revealed that numerous legitimate news organizations had reported this story many hours before DeLong "broke" it with his, "sources believed to be reliable"....

Tsk, tsk a college professor trying to pass off the work of others as his own, without giving proper attribution....

My, what an example he sets....

DeLong posted a link directly to the story, as he always does. Try doing ANY research? Useless ill-informed bloviation.

There's another one of those time-saving phrases you could just substitute for most of what you post...
