Livermore woman held on $4.3M bail on sex charges

A Livermore woman was being held on $4.3 million bail on allegations she had long-term sexual relationships with two teenage boys, authorities said Sunday.

Christine Hubbs, 42, was arrested Thursday following an investigation that began July 27 when the mother of one of the alleged victims said she found a nude photo of Hubbs on her son's cell phone, said Livermore police Lt. Matt Sarsfield.

Investigators said the boy told them the sex acts with Hubbs began in December 2008 when he was 14.

The alleged relationship continued until January 2010.

Police said while they were investigating, they interviewed another boy who said he was also having sex with Hubbs. That boy, who is now 14 years old, told police he had a sexual relationship with Hubbs from December 2009 through July.

"The sex occurred in the county of Alameda, throughout different locations, hotels, including her vehicle," Sarsfield said.

Hubbs gave gifts and money to the two boys while maintaining the alleged relationships, Sarsfield said.

He described the two teens as "very scared" during the course of the investigation. Their names have not been released.

Hubbs, who has been charged with 67 counts, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 18, is due to be arraigned Monday, according to a jail official.

The official could not say if Hubbs had retained an attorney.

But as I've said before, having a different standard for a woman seducing a teen boy versus a man seducing a teen girl is appropriate, because human nature being what it is, they're not the same level of crime...

Healthy? Probably not; but I would think many of us were involved in "unhalthy" relationships of various kinds just for the physical pleasure, through our adolesence and young adulthood. People will put up with an awful lot of "unhealthy" behavior/situations for sex.

I think you have a good point there, CP, when you think it out over time...

It would be great for a while, but over time it would become problematic...

You couldn't hang out with friends or go to the same parties together...

You certainly couldn't take her home to meet your parents, or take her to the prom...

While you were starting to get your act together for going to college she'd just want you to be with her all the time, and probably want to hold you back for her own amusement...and use her "sophistication" to manipulate you for her own ends...

And at the end of the day, you'd have to show maturity on your part, and say adios....and you both move on...

But I still wouldn't have felt "molested"....

I think that timeline would be much accelerated. Basically she's using hormones and "sophistication" as you put it to manipulate the barely pubescent to their will. I can very well see the abuse angle coming in hard and fast.

Singer Rod Stewart is to become a father for the seventh time at the age of 65, it has been announced.

The pop star is expecting a second child with his model wife Penny Lancaster, 39. The couple already have a four-year-old son called Alastair.

"We were thrilled and delighted to be able to tell Alastair that he was going to be the big brother to a little baby," the pair said in a statement.

Stewart married Lancaster, his third wife, three years ago.

The couple, who have been together for a decade, discovered they were expecting again while celebrating their wedding anniversary in Portofino, Italy.

Their baby is due to arrive in mid-March, just shortly after the musician celebrates his 66th birthday.

That bail is ridiculous. The woman has ties to the community and I can't imagine for a second that she is any real flight risk.

Bail is supposed to be about ensuring appearance at Court, not punishment.

The average bail for felony sexual intercourse without consent (which this is, as both boys are under the legal age of consent, so whether they willingly had sex with her or not is irrelevant) in my jurisdiction is $50k. At most, given there are two victims, you might see that doubled - but it would be very unlikely.

The bail set in this case tells me that either a) CA has insane bail standards, or b) the judge is being an ass.

I can see both sides of this argument. My brother had an affair with a 30year old woman when he was 15. He is none the worse for the wear, as it were. Um, yeah. When I was in my twenties I had a couple of flings with younger guys (maybe not that young). Now that I have a son who is 18 I can see it from the other side. I also know this, when I was 16 I was gonna do what I was gonna do, my 19 year boyfriend being technically illegal notwithstanding. I know that's not the same as it was only a three year difference but still. There is a school of thought out there that says our modern culture created teenagers. 100 years ago, 14 and 15 year old men held down full time jobs and married. I know teenage girls tend to have their whole hearts involved when they agree to sex and therefore can be easily manipulated. Can't speak for teenage boys, you guys tell me. I once knew a 16 year old young man who was, as you put it, a man whore. Was he emotionally messed up, like we assume of promiscuous young women? Or just hormone driven sex crazed? Can teenage boys have sex that is just sex? You guys who use to be teenage boys tell me. I'm truly asking.
