Just look at the safty tape and then the spectaters. If you watch closely you can see them moving the tape back keeping them safe, as the car crashes into the trees behind them.
It's called safty tape for a reason
A Completely Avoidable Tragedy Caused By Sheer Stupidity
Re: A Completely Avoidable Tragedy Caused By Sheer Stupidity
Actually, the loudest cheers are for the driver who gets out of a wrecked car...uninjured.Don't you think it is strange if a car crashes and the driver is taken away in an ambulance everyone chears and watches and rewatches the crash without a second throght for the man in the helmet?
Treat Gaza like Carthage.
Re: A Completely Avoidable Tragedy Caused By Sheer Stupidity
I haven't been to many car races, but for the couple I went to, that's pretty much the case. Just like football spectators will often spontaneously applaud an injured player limping or being carried off the field.
Re: A Completely Avoidable Tragedy Caused By Sheer Stupidity
Just to clear up a couple of things.
First NEVER believe ANYTHING the news media says. Bunch of freaking wankers out to get ratings instead of the truth.
Second NOBODY threw rocks at the driver of the vehicle. More media BS. Everyone there was supportive of the driver as he was devastated by what happened. Note almost all of the dead or injured were his close friends. Think about how he is feeling right now.
The simple fact is the promoter of this event has constantly ignored our requests to change the way they do things. They run races without proper support and just think they are above everyone. We as a group have for years asked people to stop racing in this series as we all knew this would happen and totally ruin our sport. Well they have done it and I for one hope they are gone for good. But knowing the egos of these morons and the people that support them it is a fair chance they will be back.
So far the off road community(family) has put up more then $100,000 to help the people hurt, http://www.fast-aid.org.
Were the spectators at fault and stupid? Damn strait they were, A lot of them were racers and should of known better. But in the end the promoter failed to properly man the area that is known to have large crowds.
I also see the claim that barricades should of been set up on the whole course. Not possible and not needed. As in this kind of racing people like to find the places that have the jumps and action and are easy to get to. This should of been controlled but once again the promoter failed as they have for years.
Hope this sheds some light.
