Parliament has backed a treaty between the UK and Jordan intended to pave the way for the deportation of Abu Qatada.
The radical cleric has indicated that he will not challenge deportation once the treaty has been fully ratified.
But it will not come into force until it is published in an official newspaper in Jordan and there has been an exchange of diplomatic letters between the two countries.
The BBC understands that this is unlikely to happen before early July.
BBC home affairs correspondent Danny Shaw said the treaty would need to be published in the Jordanian government's Official Gazette before it can be fully ratified, and the next publication is expected on 2 July.
Once the ratification process is complete, the UK government will need to re-start deportation proceedings.
Good riddance, please fuck off.
Good riddance, please fuck off.

Re: Good riddance, please fuck off.
While I can certainly understand the Brits being happy to be rid of this POS, I'm not really all that thrilled about his going to Jordan..
Jordan has probably the most enlightened and modernist Arab political leadership in the Mid-East, it is a critical Western ally, (Jordan is a good example of how to transition to democracy the right way; first you build up democratic and centrist political institutions, and then you gradually transfer power to them...I've seen King Abdullah interviewed a number of times, I'm very impressed with him...he's a very sharp dude) but it remains somewhat politically fragile and vulnerable...
It seems to me that this clown can probably stir up more trouble and instability in Jordan than he can in the UK....
They should have sent him to France....

Re: Good riddance, please fuck off.
What you don't remember what happened the last time an extremist Muslim was exiled to France?
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

The real trouble started because they didn't keep him there....What you don't remember what happened the last time an extremist Muslim was exiled to France?

Re: Good riddance, please fuck off.
Actually sonny, Khomeini had lived in France for more than 20 years without consolidating anything. He was brought to power largely as a result of the idiotic decision of the Carter Administration, (one of many; stupidity being the foundational principle of the "Carter Doctrine") to lean on the Shah to liberalize the Iranian society too quickly, before Democratic institutions had a chance to develop and take root in society.
If the Shah had been permitted to reduce the autocratic system in place in Iran in the careful, gradual way that King Abdulah is doing it in Jordan, the Iranian people would be much better off today and the whole world would be a much safer place.
The Carter Presidency is the gift that just keeps on giving...
Here we are 35 years later, and we're still paying the price for his idiocy...

Re: Good riddance, please fuck off.
From what I gathered it wasn't the so much the liberalizing but the praise of the Shah's "liberalizing" which was largely non-existant.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Ask the Kim dynasty of North KoreaThe Carter Presidency is the gift that just keeps on giving...
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

"Maybe I should roast you over a fire and eat you," mused Brer Fox. "No, that's too much trouble. Maybe I'll hang you instead."
"Roast me! Hang me! Do whatever you please," said Brer Rabbit. "Only please, Brer Fox, please don't throw me into the briar patch France."
