Pleasant Hill: Woman arrested after dog dies when left in hot car

PLEASANT HILL -- A 38-year-old woman was arrested Friday after her dog died when she left it inside a locked car in sweltering heat, police said.

Around 4:04 p.m., officers responded to the city's downtown parking structure, located at 160 Crescent Drive, for calls of a dog in distress. The city was reaching its high temperature for the day -- 101 degrees -- around the same time, according to web site Weather.com.[baked boxer]

Police found the dog, a boxer, was locked inside the vehicle with insufficient ventilation. The responding officer forced his way into the car and grabbed the dog.

Officers immediately took the dog to a nearby veterinary hospital, but it died.

Police met with the dog's owner, 38-year-old Angela Kleinfeld, at the parking structure, and took her into custody. She was held on suspicion of cruelty to animals resulting in death.

Officials warn pet owners and parents that extreme weather like the high temperatures seen this week can quickly turn fatal for animals or children left inside vehicles. Even in more moderate temperatures, a car's internal temperature can shoot far past 100 degrees.[duh]

I've always loved Boxers and I hope this poor excuse for a human being gets the book thrown at her. Perhaps 5 years of community service picking up dog shit in the parks. The jails are over crowded as it is and picking up dog shit serves her crime better.

Pet owners are supposed to pick up their dogs poop when visiting a dog friendly park and do so for the most part (at least around here).
Make her a permanent volunteer at the local animal shelter. Plenty of poop there.

It was HHH around here this weekend, (I can only imagine what the southwest is like). We have a kiddy pool we fill up for Apollo. When he gets hot, he lays down in it. He was soaking wet all weekend.
