Allow me to paraphrase both posts:

Mine: We should still rescue these people but they should pay a fee for their rescue.
You: We should let them die but unfortunately our human nature does not allow this.

And mine is harsher and less compassionate? Only if one values money over life...

Your last sentence pretty much sums up rube's priorities in life.

Sad but true.

:(

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

I did not say our nature was 'unfortunate' I said that it is what it is. You are the one who said we should value money over life; i.e. charge them or let them die. Try to tell the truth. It will distinguish you in this group.

No Rube, to be fair you did not say it was unfortunate, you said it was perverse. Mind you, you claim that I said that we should "charge them or let them die", whereas I said nothing of the sort!

And you have the gall to challenge others' reading comprehension?

As for telling the truth Rube, please consider the following statements:

Rubato believes that these people should me left to die.
Sean believes that these people should be charged for their rescue.

Now, if you would be so kind, please point out the part(s) of those statements which is untrue.

Rubato said that we will not (in fact) allow these people to die because it is not our nature to do so.

Try to make even a little sense? Just a little?

Just to recap for the stupid...

Rubato, are these or are they not your words:
"The right thing to do is allow people who don't value their own lives to die in the manner of their choosing and thereby improve the species."

Now, and think carefully before you answer, does that or does it not equate to:
"Rubato believes that these people should be left to die".

If your answer to the first part is 'yes' and your answer to the second part is 'no', I would be very interested to learn your reasoning.

Well, in rube's defense, I would have to say that it's entirely possible that he could honestly say yes to the first and no to the second because he has shown repeatedly that he does not know the meanings of the words he uses, (his knowledge and understanding of the English language ranking second only to his challenges regarding the performance of simple math) so he may just not understand that the second is a re-statement of the first....

Remember this is the guy who didn't even know what the definition of the word "wealth" is.....

Note to readers: rubato is talking about all of the quite accomplished people of UC Santa Cruz, and how they would send rescuers because it is their nature to do so.

Did you read the whole post? Was four sentences too much for you to parse all at once?

I read your post in it's entirety and by the way, I count 5 sentences.
1) We can't help ourselves.
2) The right thing to do is allow people who don't value their own lives to die in the manner of their choosing and thereby improve the species.
3) But we can't help it.
4) We're going to send rescuers because it is our nature to do so.
5) Perverse, but there you are.

I am the first person to admit if I misread or didn't understand or didn't read a post, but I believe I get what you are saying by both this post and other posts around the board. You have made more than one post about people who take risks. How they should get their just deserves if something goes wrong during their endeavor.

I am guessing (and you can correct me if I am wrong, but without the demeaning attitude please) that you take a grim view on climbing Mount Everest as we (society) gained nothing from the task. Of going to the north or south pole just to say "I did it"?

I am also guessing that you do approve of some risky ventures that do have some social value like Columbus trying to find a better route to India but discovering the Americas instead. Or launching a man into outerspce as we reaped the rewards of technological advances. Do please explain yourself as your above ppost leads me to believe these views.

and by the way, I think I would be accepted to the Univ of Ca.. I graduated summa cum laude with a BSEE degree all the while working a full time job, buying a house and raising a family (2 children). My name is on multiple patents that the Chyron Corp holds for our work (yes, it was a team of hardware and software engineers that created the systems). And, Chyron was winners of two Emmy's for our engineering accomplishments in the television industry.

Now I have to go pray as I think my ego is getting swelled again.
