Women of a Certain Age
Women of a Certain Age
Any suggestions for treatments and/or lifestyle hacks that helped with hot flashes and night sweats? (Besides oral HRT - I'd prefer to avoid that.)
Thanks in advance for any shared experiences!

When you get to my age, this is what constitutes a hot flash;

“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

Speaking of your age, Gob - it seems lately when you post about going to concerts they've been lovely classical gigs.
Have you gotten too old to rock out?

It's good you're avoiding the crowds then.Gob wrote:Nope, just no one playing here at present.

sounds familiar bigsky. not the thingy but the rocking out . i grew up on Floyd, bad company, eagles, Hendrix, beck (jeff), and the like, i grew to love bluegrass and johnny cash, and old hank too, but my last few years working i only listened to classical stuff on NPR. it made work more pleasant, rock just distracted me. i don t know anything about classical but it soothes me. i rarely listen to music at allnow, i just play my original stuff on classical guitar for my daughter. she is learning a few chords herself.
Re: Women of a Certain Age
i did suffer putrid night sweats for a month and a half , while going thru the methadone withdrawal.... very unpleasant.

I bought my wife one of those hand held fans. Other than that, she suffered through.bigskygal wrote:Any suggestions for treatments and/or lifestyle hacks that helped with hot flashes and night sweats? (Besides oral HRT - I'd prefer to avoid that.)

BSG--When my wife had a hysterectomy a number of years ago, she went on HRT (premarin as I recall) for about 7-8 months and then stopped. It did help her over the initial menopausal effects (which I understand are usually worst at the outset), and when she discontinued the hormone she did well. If you don't find anything else that works, you might want to discuss this sort of regimen with your doctor.

It is a tradeoff between the certain harm of symptoms versus the increasingly uncertain harm of HRT.bigskygal wrote:Any suggestions for treatments and/or lifestyle hacks that helped with hot flashes and night sweats? (Besides oral HRT - I'd prefer to avoid that.)
