Rebel Wilson has fired up a storm at the BAFTAs with a controversial jibe at transgender actors and a near-the-knuckle joke referring to the race of nominee Idris Elba.
Wilson, who was presenting the Best Supporting Actor award, said she had been "practising her transgender face" in the hope of winning a prize and then referred to Elba as "chocolate".
"I've never been to the Oscars, because as you know, they are racist," she said at London's Royal Opera House. "But BAFTA have diverse members and that's what we all want to see in life, isn't it? Diverse members. One day I hope to return here to win a BAFTA myself. I have already been practising my transgender face."
Wilson also took a shot at Elba's sex symbol status. The distinguished British actor was nominated for his role in Beasts of No Nation.
"Sorry, Idris Elba... You're making me a bit nervous," she said. "But I'm just psychologically programmed to want chocolate on Valentine's Day."
