Washington (CNN)Secret Service officers on Friday shot a male suspect near a security checkpoint close to the White House after he apparently brandished a weapon, a law enforcement source said.
The suspect was shot in the abdomen and taken into custody, according to two sources familiar with the incident.
President Barack Obama was not at the White House, and Vice President Joe Biden was secured in the White House complex during the incident. The Secret Service later confirmed the shooting and tweeted "all Secret Service protectees are safe."
This looks like just a case of a disturbed person trying to commit suicide by cop...
Everybody knows that if you really want to attack somebody in the White House, you don't go up to a guard kiosk and brandish a gun...
All you have to do is jump over the fence, run across the lawn, and walk through the front door...
