Staying at home.

(yeah, it's boring but self-preservation is my top priority)

3 and 1/2 couples, and a likely 19-year old son, coming over for champagne, wine, misc. snacks and borderline entrees (like a nice blackbean soup). Someone said they were bringing a game. All people who were present or invited to our wedding.

I have to dash out and do some destruction in the yard while it is cold but still dry.

Happy new year and success all around.

We had a quiet one, Hatch is at her dads. Stayed up to watch the Sydney New Years Fireworks on TV, had a couple of glasses (bottles) of wine, crashed out at 12.20.

Getting old...

We're having a few friends over for a buffet dinner. Then we'll just hang out and hope the rain hasn't moved in so we'll be able to catch the fireworks.

Mr. and Mrs. Excitement here. I was up at 4am today to go to work, and will be again tomorrow, thus me and the chickens will shortly be in bed.

I had a quiet New Years - the two dogs are getting old, and stress a bit with all the fireworks. Two of the kids were at parties, and one was working. So I elected to stay home and babysit the animals. I'm still getting over this 'flu' anyway - got most of my voice back, and a fair bit of my lung power working again - just still having room spins if I get up too quickly, but I can handle that. It means I can have a drunken moment every now and then without even drinking!!
I had a few phone calls, but otherwise a very relaxing evening after a day spent in the garden (it was a hot day - 40 degrees, but they said that thunderstorms were coming later in the evening. It's just one of my petty little life satisfactions - I really like getting stuff done in the garden ahead of a thunderstorm!)
I actually really enjoyed having a quiet night - I was in a happy worn out state from the gardening, and I had the TV to myself 'cos the kids were out. I watched the Melbourne fireworks on TV, and switched channels in time to see the end of the Sydney ones.
Then as the kids came home we did the happy new years thing together and had nice chats about their parties/work, and eventually ended up all sitting up watching some sitcom marathon until a ridiculous hour. It was one I wouldn't normally watch, but it was nice with the kids and the relaxed sleepy chat. There were occasional firecrackers all throughout the morning - and there was a fairly big event at about 2.30am that it lit up the sky and cascaded above our whole neighbourhood. Don't know what event it was from to be going off that late - it seemed too big for some local home firework event, and it looked great.

My ride flaked as he didn't want to deal with the drunks on the road. I may take the trolley downtown, it's free all night.

We were going to go out to drink with friends, but the weather here is bitter cold (-20s) so we decided not to venture out.

Spent the evening on the sofa with the fireplace going, watching movies and cuddling. Rang in the New Year with a private celebration. ;)

We had the neighbors over so nobody had to drive anywhere. Walking was a problem for one or two of them, but everyone made it home safely.

We spent the weekend with friends (no driving!). CJ and I made enough food for about 30 people, as we never know who's going to show up. Pulled pork with homemade BBQ sauce, coleslaw, potato-leek soup, lots of different cheeses, bread and assorted other nibbles. I'm still eating leftovers...

There were about twelve people at 9pm, four went home at 10 pm, another three people left at 11, and there were five of us left to drink a glass of champagne and go to bed at 12:30. We are getting old!

We had a few couples over. Black bean soup, brussels sprouts wrapped in prosciutto, miscellaneous snacks, and some fondue (provided) w/ vegetables and bread, one person brought a bottle of '99 Dom Perignon (the other two best champagnes I have had were bottles he brought to Thanksgiving dinners). When that was gone the lesser champagnes were used for cocktails; bitters, cubed sugar, and a strip of lemon peel. Popular, but I avoided them and stuck with wine.

We played "you've been sentenced" and "wise and otherwise" until people started to fade. It was all over by midnight.

Modest overindulgence can only produce insincere and tepid repentance. I'd do it all again.
