A French national of North African origin has been arrested in the Belgian city of Antwerp on suspicion of driving at a crowd, officials say.
A car was driven "at high speed" on De Meir, the northern city's main shopping street, before it was intercepted. There were no reports of any injuries.
Knives, a non-lethal gun and some unidentifiable liquid were found in the car, prosecutors say.
Belgian PM Charles Michel praised the authorities for an "outstanding job".
It was also the day Belgium marked the first anniversary of the twin bomb attacks in Brussels, that killed 32 people and wounded more than 300.

Re: Meanwhile, in Antwerp...
Just a guess, but it could be a toy or cap gun, or maybe a starter's pistol? Or a model or non-firing replica? Or a taser? Or...

Re: Meanwhile, in Antwerp...
Our local NBC affiliate tv station has called the dead bad guy in the recent London attack 'the gunman' three times that I have heard. The only guns present at this event were in the hands of the police.
Why do 'mainstream media' keep shooting themselves in the foot and providing evidence for Trump supporters to point and say 'see, its all fake news'?

I'm sure they're just making that mistake because it's generally true here in the good ol' USA where rampages by gunmen are a weekly occurrence. Force of habit is strong.
