Video shows cop pummeling alleged jaywalker; criminal investigation underway
A criminal investigation has been launched into the “disturbing” actions of a Sacramento police officer who was captured on video punching a man accused of jaywalking, authorities said.
The officer, whose name hasn’t been released, was placed on leave as authorities opened an administrative investigation into his actions.
On Tuesday, the Police Department released dash-cam video footage from the officer’s patrol cruiser showing the confrontation. (A witness’ cellphone video of the incident sparked public outrage when it was circulated on social media recently.)
“The actions of the involved Sacramento police officer are disturbing and do not appear to be reasonable based upon the circumstances,” the Police Department said in a statement. “The Sacramento Police Department holds itself to the highest professional standard and the actions that were observed are not indicative of the dedicated women and men who work for the Department.”
Has anyone here had the experience of having a cop actually pull over and get out of his car to go after them for crossing in the middle of the block on a lightly-traveled residential street?
I can honestly say I haven't...

Probably because you weren't jaywalking while black.
Regular readers of this space will know that I am not the type to jump to the conclusion that racism is involved in every incident between a white cop and a black civilian...
However...
In this case...
Maybe this police officer is some sort of "Jawalking Avenger" who has a record of chasing down and ticketing mid-block street crossers on quiet residential streets regardless of their skin color (ie, he does this all the time, and the record shows he's done the same thing to whites as well as blacks)...
But unless that's the case, (and I kinda doubt that it is) then it sure looks like there was a racial motivation here to me...
Regardless of whether the alleged jaywalker is black or white, engaging in a confrontation over jaywalking at all -- especially on a residential street with virtually no appreciable traffic -- is wholly unacceptable. A "jaywalking" charge is never anything but a pretext for bad behavior by police.
Why do black men not understand the stress an officer undergoes when he sees someone not using a crosswalk? If black people would just try to realize the difficulties of being a white police officer, many of our racial conflicts would quickly disappear. The jaywalker clearly needs to have some diversity training.
Cop culture strikes again. The boys in blue represent the power, authority, nobility of the State. The jaywalker mouthed off and clearly insulted the dignity of our great nation. That earned him a beat-down. The jaywalking was the least of his offenses.
